Newbiggin-by-the-Sea Co-op re-opens its doors to the community (Friday, 24 April) following a four-week investment programme to ‘transform’ the store.

Located in Front Street, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, the store supports 14 local jobs with seasonal recruitment for the summer season soon set to start.

Opening between 7am-10pm daily, the store relaunches with a fresh new look and range to enhance the shopping experience for residents and visitors to the coastal town.

New refrigeration cuts energy consumption while enhancing the range and choice of fresh and chilled products, Co-op’s in store bakery has been extended and, a new Costa Coffee Express machine now dispenses both hot and chilled drinks. This sits alongside Co-op’s meal deals and food to go; Fairtrade products; ready meals and meal ideas – including its new Mexican-inspired ‘Served’ range; pizzas; fresh meats and dairy; chilled beers and wines, fresh flowers and, everyday essentials.

An InPost Locker has been added alongside services from Amazon and DPD to provide convenient parcel collections.

The online home delivery of groceries is also available via Just Eat and Uber Eats, with orders picked fresh in the local store and delivered quickly and conveniently in the local community. Plus, payment services are available via PayPoint.

There are offers, deals and promotions – including Co-op Irresistible pizza and a tub of Häagen-Dazs ice cream for just £5 for Members – throughout the store.

Member price savings create additional value for Co-op members who can save more with lower prices on the essential products shoppers buy most.

Gary Colpitts, Co-op area manager, said: “We’re delighted to invest in Newbiggin-by-the Sea, and proud to be part of local community life. Co-op is committed to backing high streets and communities, and we work to ensure our stores are a hub locally. We have a focus on offering quality products, value and choice that can be enjoyed by everyone alongside added services including Costa Coffee, parcel collections; payment services; quick online home delivery and more. We would really like to thank the community for all their support for the popular ‘pop-up Co-op shop’ during the works. The store has now been transformed, and the whole team is really looking forward to welcoming members and customers into the store now works are concluded – we’re here to serve and support the community and visitors to the area, conveniently.”

Co-op is committed to backing British agriculture, with all of its own fresh and frozen meat 100% British – including in its pies, sandwiches and ready meals.

Soft plastic recycling is available in store – making it easier for shoppers to return and recycle materials that are often not universally accepted via household kerbside recycling, such as crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches.

Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives, with its history dating back more than 180 years. Co-op exists to create value for its membership and communities, its more than 7 million members own the business and play an intrinsic part in the governance of the organisation.
