Coming of age: the launch of TAMDHU 21YO

TAMDHU 21YOThe Scotch whisky famed for its dedication to Oloroso Sherry cask maturation excellence, Tamdhu, is launching its much anticipated 21-year-old expression in May 2025.

Tamdhu, part of Ian Macleod Distillers, the family-owned whisky and gin company, has been creating fine whiskies on the banks of the River Spey since 1897.

Tamdhu Distillery produces its spirit using its own local spring water. This very limited “coming of age” 21-year-old release, like all Tamdhu single malts, is fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks to deliver a flavour profile and entirely natural colour that makes this spirit elegant and distinctive.

This significant launch will be embraced globally by connoisseurs of Scotch single malts. It is bottled at 47.5% ABV, unchill filtered and is a limited (on allocation) annual global release with a recommended retail price of £299 for a 70cl bottle.

The elegant octagonal Tamdhu bottle is presented in a beautiful, Royal green cut-work gift case whose Spanish-Moorish design reflects the Southern Spanish sherry casks used in the maturation process. The display box, adorned with a metallic Tamdhu monogram, slides off to reveal the inner design case and a slide drawer with a tasting notes booklet. The closure is gold wood, decorated with a gold branded capsule.

The oak from which the casks are made is grown in both Spain and north America and all the casks are crafted in the family Cooperages and Bodegas of Jerez.

Sandy McIntyre, distillery manager, said: “Our patience and dedication shines through in every sip of Tamdhu 21YO. This latest release is a fine example of our commitment to the Spain-to-Speyside journey that every Tamdhu expression benefits from. Oloroso Sherry Casks from Spain deliver excellence for our whisky and help make this brand, produced in one of the most unspoilt parts of Scotland, uniquely refined in flavour.”

Gordon Dundas, Global Brand Ambassador for Tamdhu and Ian Macleod Distillers’ whiskies, said: “Tamdhu Distillery is located on the banks of the Spey and produces its spirit using its own local spring water. This limited “coming of age” 21-year-old release, like all Tamdhu single malts, is fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks to deliver a flavour profile and entirely natural colour that makes this spirit elegant and distinctive.”

Tasting Notes

  • On the nose: Sherried oak with chocolate, sultanas, velvety toffee and warm cinnamon porridge oats rounded out with a hint of mocha and marzipan.
  • On the palate: Christmas cake notes of plump, sherry-soaked raisins, candied oranges, and gentle oak aromas.
  • Finish: a long, smooth finish with waves of oak and warm spices giving way to rich, syrupy fruits.

Tamdhu 21-year-old is available for sale in the finest global specialist retailers and via www.tamdhu.com . For trade inquiries contact your Ian Macleod account manager.
