Stock up on fruit and veg this summer and be rewarded with bonus Nectar points by taking part in the annual Great fruit and veg challenge and completing personalised portion tasks. Sainsbury’s is giving shoppers the chance to earn up to 1000 extra points by filling their baskets with fruit and veg.

From 31st July to 17th September, Nectar’s Great fruit & veg challenge returns to Sainsbury’s for the fifth year, allowing customers to earn bonus Nectar points by meeting personalised fruit and vegetable portion tasks.

To get involved, Sainsbury’s shoppers simply need to join the challenge via the Nectar app. They’ll then receive tailored fruit and veg portion tasks which can be completed by shopping for dried, tinned and frozen fruits and vegetables, as well as fresh produce*.

To make purchases count towards their goal, customers can either scan their Nectar app at the checkout or when using SmartShop in store or, if doing an online shop, by linking Nectar to their Sainsbury’s Groceries account. They can keep an eye on how they’re progressing by checking the challenge summary in the Nectar app.

Once a task is completed Sainsbury’s will reward customers with bonus Nectar points on top of the points collected through their usual shopping. Nectar points can be spent at a range of big-name partners, including Sainsbury’s, Argos and Esso, or converted to Avios and put towards a British Airways flight.

Last year saw an incredible 110 million portions of fruit and vegetables purchased throughout the challenge, with 278 million points awarded to customers that achieved their portion targets. The challenge is part of Sainsbury’s continued commitment to helping customers to make healthier choices and providing good food for all.  As well as offering rewards, the retailer also offers recipes, storage tips and much more.

Customers can access a range of recipe ideas using fresh, tinned and frozen fruit and veg on Sainsbury’s website here.

Alex Naisby, director of loyalty & CRM at Sainsbury’s, said: “Through the return of the Great fruit & veg challenge we hope to continue helping our customers enjoy a varied, nutritious diet in a fun and rewarding way. We want to make good, healthy food affordable for everyone, whether that’s through our Low Everyday Prices, Aldi Price Match or Nectar Prices, or personalised prices available to digital customers through Your Nectar Prices.

“We’re encouraging customers to fill their baskets with fruit and veg to make even healthier choices, with the bonus of extra Nectar points. The response to our challenge was incredible last year, with 20% more customers choosing to opt-in than the previous year, meaning over 700,000 customers enjoyed 278 million bonus points over the duration of the challenge. As we celebrate our fifth year, we’d love to see even more customers getting involved to discover the fantastic range of fruit and veg available in store and online.”

Ready to boost your fruit and veg intake? Join the challenge by downloading the Nectar app to get started and learn how to earn bonus points. To sign up and for more information about where to collect and spend points, visit the Nectar app on your smartphone or tablet.
