Gousto expands horizons with Republic of Ireland launch

Gousto, a leading UK recipe kit provider, is delighted to announce its  expansion into the Republic of Ireland with the launch of gousto.ie, bringing Irish consumers unrivalled choice and convenience. Offering 150 fresh, high-quality, and portion controlled monthly recipes delivered direct to the door, Gousto provides an easier way to cook from scratch, without the hassle of meal planning or supermarket trips.

Founded in 2012, Gousto pioneered the recipe kit sector in the UK, bridging the gap between the demand for convenience and the desire for fresh, home cooked food. Now a profitable £300 million plus revenue business and one of Europe’s fastest-growing scale-ups1, Gousto is set to redefine mealtime for the Republic of Ireland’s 1.8 million households.

Unmatched choice, ultimate convenience, served up by technology

Gousto plans to shake-up the Irish dinner market, offering more choice and a lower price point than other local recipe box providers, and also a more convenient offering than the supermarkets. Consumers can order online in minutes from an unrivalled choice of over 150 monthly recipes tailored to meet Irish tastes, delivered direct to the door to cities and rural communities across the country, avoiding the need to drive, traipse the supermarket aisles and navigate the minefield of self-checkouts. With an estimated 36% of the population living in rural communities, compared to just 15% in the UK, the time and fuel saving alone is considerable. Many meal choices can then be prepped in as little as five minutes or ready in ten, with one pan wonders minimising the washing up for added convenience. This level of choice and convenience is only made possible through technology, provided by Gousto’s Software as a Service (Saas) spin-out, Bento Tech.

All dietary requirements are catered for from plant based recipes and gluten and dairy free options through to those seeking a protein hit or a veg boost. Consumers in the first few weeks will be able to enjoy diverse cuisines from around the world including spicy Korean fried chicken, fresh Greek fish dinners, cheesy Mexican enchiladas and warming Japanese udon.

“Our research reveals Irish consumers are highly engaged in health but until now this has not been reflected in dinner choices across the country.  We aim to fill this gap in the market, with an inspiring range of nutritious, fresh, home-cooked recipes, which make healthy eating simple”, commented Timo Boldt Gousto founder and CEO.

Local sourcing, sustainability and Brexit

Gousto has prioritised working with Irish suppliers to ensure high-quality, sustainable ingredients and support local businesses. At launch, over one third of ingredients will be sourced from the island of Ireland, including 100% Irish beef, and 100% Irish chicken (reared and packed in Northern Ireland), and locally sourced liquid dairy.

Tom O’Hanlan, managing director of O’Hanlan Herbs says: “We’re delighted to be part of Ireland’s growing food scene as Gousto makes its debut here. As a key player in the local supply chain, we’re excited to see how our fresh herbs will elevate the brand’s delicious and inspiring dishes. It’s fantastic to be a part of a launch that brings both creativity and convenience to the kitchen, making it easier than ever to prepare flavourful meals with the finest ingredients.”

In addition to supporting the Irish economy, local sourcing has the added benefit of helping to mitigate the additional costs, port delays and customs checks imposed by new post Brexit rules, which particularly impact on perishable produce.

As a long standing member of the B-Corp community, sustainability is at the heart of Gousto’s model. Eating with Gousto reduces carbon emissions by 23% compared to a traditional supermarket shop. Plus, thanks to advanced technology and AI-driven supply chains, Gousto limits operational food waste to below 0.3%.

Expanding opportunities in Ireland

In addition to supporting local farmers and producers, Gousto’s expansion will create over 30 new jobs in 2025 across management, marketing, food, supply chain and fulfilment. As the business scales, local job creation will increase further. Orders will be fulfilled within Ireland for maximum freshness and efficiency, working with local partner Bond Freeze  and DPD for delivery to ensure a seamless customer experience.

Timo Boldt, founder and CEO, said: “Launching into the Republic of Ireland was the natural next step following our successful expansion into Northern Ireland. We will deliver to the nation’s 1.8 million households an unrivalled recipe choice, expanding their cooking repertoire with simple to create dishes from around the world, exceptional value, combined with the convenience to make cooking from scratch the obvious choice, all backed up by local fulfilment and local sourcing.”
