Greggs opens first supermarket ‘Bitesize Greggs’ in Tesco

Greggs, a leading UK food-on-the-go retailer, has opened its first supermarket ‘Bitesize Greggs’ within the Tesco Southwark Superstore.

The opening marks the latest step in the rollout of Greggs smaller shop format, which allows the company to bring a tailored range of its best-selling customer favourites, offering the same great quality and prices to customers in compact units in prime, high-footfall locations.

Open seven days a week, the ‘Bitesize Greggs’ at Tesco Southwark Superstore has created 10 new jobs for the local area. Located at 107 Dunston Road, Southwark, London, SE1 5HG, the shop provides customers convenient access to a selection of products including Sausage Rolls, Steak Bakes, Sweet Treats and Fairtrade hot drinks.

This latest store at Tesco Southwark Superstore follows the successful opening of ‘Bitesize Greggs’ locations at London Bridge Station, Sevenoaks Railway Station, Dartford Station and Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet.

The more agile ‘Bitesize Greggs’ shop format alongside Greggs traditional, larger shops supports the company’s broader shop estate growth plans. In 2026, Greggs expects to open around 100–110 net new shops, and it continues to see a clear opportunity for at least 3,500 UK shops over the longer term, supported by investment in supply chain capacity required to enable that growth.

Tony Rowson, property director at Greggs, commented: “We’re delighted to announce the opening of our first ‘Bitesize Greggs’ within a supermarket at Tesco Southwark Superstore. Our Bitesize format allows us to bring Greggs to more customers from compact units in convenient, high-footfall locations, while still offering a selection of our best-selling products. This new opening is an exciting next step as part of our broader ambition to make Greggs even more accessible to customers across the UK.”

Liam Wagstaff, retail partnership manager at Tesco, said: “We’re always looking for ways to make the shopping trip even more convenient for our customers, and we’re pleased to welcome the first supermarket ‘Bitesize Greggs’ at our Southwark Superstore. Now customers can pick up all their Greggs favourites while popping in to do their weekly shop, offering even greater convenience.”
