Music lovers and pop culture fans, get ready for an exciting new era! Music and pop culture retailer hmv is set to open its second shop in The Netherlands this March with a new site in Amsterdam, months after successfully launching in The Hague.

With over 30,000 different products available, the 4,977 sq. ft shop will offer fans of pop culture an unrivalled range of music, film and TV, pop culture merchandise, technology, and literature set across two floors.

Customers will be able to browse 6,000 different vinyl albums, 7,000 different CDs, as well as 4,000 films and TV shows across Blu-Ray and 4K Ultra HD formats, and a book range featuring new fiction, Young Adult and Manga titles, graphic novels, and music biographies. There will also be an extensive range of collectable merchandise on offer, with 4,000 pop culture products and over 500 different T shirt designs available across franchises including Stranger Things, KPop Demon Hunters, and Funko POP!

The Amsterdam shop, hmv’s second in The Netherlands, is a significant milestone for the business as it looks to broaden its reach across Europe and strengthen its position in EU markets following three successful launches in Ireland (Dublin, Limerick, and Cork), two in Belgium (Antwerp & Brussels), and one in The Netherlands (The Hague).

The retailer has over 100 sites across the UK where it contributed to the wider vinyl revival; this European expansion reflects the retailer’s continued confidence in the future of physical retail and renewed focus on prime high-street locations.

Phil Halliday, managing director at hmv and Fopp, said: “We’re constantly striving to create new homes for communities of fans to come together and share their love of music and popular culture.

“From K Pop to classical, heavy metal to EDM, films, Anime and books, our new shop in Amsterdam will bring together ranges that can’t be found under one roof anywhere else. We’re confident that we can bring something new to Amsterdam and we can’t wait to open the doors to our new shop in March.

“Opening new shops in mainland Europe and Ireland continues to be the focus of the business as we look to expand overseas, and it is a testament to the team that we have had six successful launches so far, with another to follow in the Dutch capital.”

To celebrate the opening in Amsterdam, the first 50 customers to make a purchase will receive an exclusive goodie bag packed with must have pop culture merchandise.

The shop’s address is Kalverstraat 8, 1012 NX Amsterdam, Netherlands, and its opening hours are:

  • Monday to Wednesday – 10:00am – 8:00pm
  • Thursday – 10:00am – 9:00pm
  • Friday to Saturday – 10:00am – 8:00pm
  • Sunday – 11:00am – 7:00pm
