Music and pop culture retailer hmv is opening a new shop on Kalverstraat in Amsterdam next year, following a hugely successful launch in The Hague in November.
The 4,500 square foot shop, its second in The Netherlands, will offer fans of pop culture an unrivalled range of products spanning music, film, TV, and literature, as well as the latest and most sought-after pop culture collectables.
It will offer a deeper selection of vinyl LPs and CDs than The Hague shop, with a dedicated area to all things K-Pop. There will also be a larger selection of films and collector’s box sets on 4K and Blu-Ray, and double the range of t-shirts, collectables and books.
Phil Halliday, managing director at hmv and Fopp, said: “We’re constantly striving to create new community hubs for fans to come together and share their love of music and pop culture. The shop will cater to a range of interests, stocking all genres of music from K-Pop to Heavy Metal, the best film and TV shows around, as well as a great selection of fiction, non-fiction and graphic novels. We’re confident that we’ll bring something new to Kalverstraat and we can’t wait to open the doors next year.”
hmv was originally founded in the UK in 1921 as a gramophone brand, His Master’s Voice, and opened its first dedicated store on London’s Oxford Street. The business was acquired by Sunrise Records owner Doug Putman in 2019 and now has over 120 stores around the UK offering hmv’s expansive range of vinyl, CDs, film and TV content on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K, as well as popular culture merchandise, books, turntables and headphones
