Home Bargains has invested approximately £1million into its new store, ‘Reading 2’, located at Brunel Retail Park, Reading, which will be officially opened at 8.00 am on Saturday 23rd September, 2023.

As one of the UK’s largest family-run retailers, Home Bargains is creating 82 new jobs in the local community with its new store in Reading. In total, the store will employ 93 team members, including some staff and management who will be transferring from local stores.

The new ‘Reading 2’ store will complement the existing Reading store and over 600 outlets across the UK. Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains is bucking current trends in the industry.

Jamil Basith, the new Reading 2 store manager, said: “The opening of our new Home Bargains store in Whitley, Reading, is an inspiring milestone that brings together opportunity and community spirit.

“As the second location in this vibrant community, we’ve created over 80 job opportunities, igniting pride and progress among our fellow residents. This store goes beyond mere bricks and shelves; it symbolizes a place where dreams can flourish.

“With a garden centre, bakery, and cafe, we’re establishing a dynamic hub within Brunel Retail Park, where convenience meets aspiration. A £2000 donation to local charity Reading Association for the Blind underscores our commitment to positive change and community support.

“This venture embodies the collective spirit of growth and transformation, forging a brighter, more prosperous future for our cherished community.”

Home Bargains will also be donating £2,000 to a local charity, Reading Association for the Blind, which has supported sight impaired people of Reading since 1883.

Rebecca Van Der Kamp, Operations Manager at The Reading Association for the Blind; said “I would like to thank everyone at Home Bargains for the support and very generous donation of £2,000.

“We are very thankful the company has chosen our cause to support and I hope the team at Home Bargains will be pleased to hear that the money will be put to great use supporting and empowering those living with the effects of sight loss in Reading.

“The Reading Association for the Blind is very proud to continue caring and supporting our members who are living with the debilitating effects of sight loss and it is with great thanks to the generosity of our donors that we can continue to support all those who need our services.”

The 30,386sq ft store, will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food. The Reading 2 store will also be home to a Home Bargains bakery, café and garden centre.
