InstaVolt marks over 1 million miles of clean-air motoring from Winchester Superhub this Net Zero Week

Winchester Superhub InstaVoltAn Electric Vehicle (EV) charging site has marked an impressive clean air milestone this Net Zero Week as it delivers more than 1 million emission-free miles for EV drivers.

InstaVolt, the UK’s largest ultra-rapid EV charging network, has announced that its flagship Winchester Superhub has delivered an incredible 1,083,550 emission-free miles – equivalent to removing over 275,000kg of greenhouse gas emissions from the environment or planting 6,700 trees.

The announcement is perfectly timed during Net Zero Week – which is now in its 5th year and runs from 5th – 11th July 2025. It underscores the UK’s commitment under the 2015 Paris Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 81% on 1990 levels by 2035 and achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

InstaVolt is proud to support Net Zero Week 2025 as it continues to expand its network of ultra-rapid EV charging locations, each of which uses 100% renewable energy. With ISO 14001 certification, the international standard for environmental management systems, the company takes its responsibility to reduce its environmental impact extremely seriously. This accreditation underpins how InstaVolt operates, informing smarter, greener choices across everything from site planning and construction to supply chain partnerships and ongoing operations.

Supporting regional infrastructure and net zero goals, the Winchester Superhub, which opened in March 2025, is the UK’s largest ultra-rapid charging site operated by a single provider and the first InstaVolt location to generate and store its own energy, thanks to an on-site solar farm and advanced battery storage. This reduces reliance on the grid, stabilises costs and allows InstaVolt to pass savings straight back to the customer.

The four-acre site, located just off the A34 with easy access to the M3, offers 44 ultra-rapid charging bays, including four longer bays for vans, four extra-long drive-through bays for vehicles towing trailers and three blue badge-only bays.

Its hybrid renewable energy system features 870 solar panels (500kW capacity), two battery storage containers (960kW/4MWh capacity – among the largest in Europe for EV charging) and 1MW connection to the renewable grid.

This allows InstaVolt to prioritise solar energy and battery storage to power chargers, falling back on the renewable-powered grid only when needed, maximising sustainability while delivering consistent high-speed charging even during peak times.

Crucially, it also enables InstaVolt to offer its customers dynamic pricing, with site-specific rates passing savings directly to customers in near real-time. This summer’s price promotion means the rates are currently 54p per kWh for contactless and roaming customers and 50pKWh for those using the free InstaVolt app and InstaVolt RFID card.

Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt, said: “We are building the infrastructure that makes net zero a practical reality. Our Winchester Superhub is a great example of how public charging can contribute directly to decarbonisation, offering drivers a convenient, clean alternative to petrol and diesel. We’re proud to support Net Zero Week and share the real-world impact of our growing network.

Designed with EV drivers’ needs in mind, the Winchester Superhub features an on-site Starbucks café, children’s play area, dedicated dog-walking zone and 24/7 toilet facilities with baby changing, making it an ideal place for drivers to rest and recharge before continuing their journey.
