Lidl is leading the charge in meeting the demand for higher-protein products with a new, first to market range. These pioneering products combine British meat and pea protein to deliver at least 20% more protein than traditional meat options. Lidl’s innovative High-Protein Meat range launches in stores on Friday, 18th September, with prices starting from just £1.99.
With interest in high-protein meals surging by over 5,000%3 this past year, many consumers are eager to increase their intake. However, cost remains a primary barrier, with 51% of consumers citing it as the main obstacle to following a high-protein diet4. Lidl’s new range offers a game-changing, accessible solution, helping shoppers increase their protein levels without breaking the bank.
Lidl is the the only GB retailer to set a protein split target, committing to increase plant-based options to 25% of its total protein offering by 2030. This strategy aligns with research from the EAT-Lancet Planetary Health Diet (PHD)1, which highlights important plant-based protein gaps necessary to support both planetary boundaries and human health.
Leading the range, the High Protein Cumberland Sausages (£1.99) deliver up to 50% more protein than traditional equivalents. Everyday core offerings include High Protein Beef Mince 5% Fat (£4.79) and High Protein Beef Mince 10% Fat (£3.99), perfect for household staples such as chilli, bolognese and cottage pie. The lineup further expands into classic options with High Protein Quarter Pounders (£2.99) and High Protein Meatballs (£2.79). Additionally, the High Protein Pork Sausages (£1.99) are Good Housekeeping Institute Taste Test Approved.
Richard Bourns, chief commercial officer at Lidl GB, commented: “Demand for high-protein products is soaring, but price often remains the main barrier for shoppers. Our market-leading hybrid meat range blends British meat with plant protein to deliver at least 20% more protein than traditional alternatives at unbeatable Lidl prices. Crucially, we’re bringing our Planetary Health Diet commitments to life right at the shelf edge, by creating high quality, innovative solutions to deliver on health, sustainability, and value without compromise. As the only GB retailer setting a protein transition target, we’re ensuring that healthy, sustainable choices are truly accessible to everyone.”
Lidl GB is the first British retailer and discounter to align its sales targets with the principles of the PHD. The global PHD framework shows how small changes to everyday diets, such as eating more fruits, vegetables, beans, pulses, lentils, nuts, seeds, wholegrains, and plant based options can support both human and planetary health.
Lidl’s new High Protein Meat range will be available to shop in stores nationwide from Friday 18th September.
