Lindahls Protein Quark expands into Sainsbury’s as protein cheese sales grow

Lindahls Protein QuarkLactalis UK & Ireland expanded the distribution of Lindahls Protein Quark with a new listing in 300 Sainsbury’s stores earlier this month.

The listing comes as shopper demand continues to build across high-protein dairy. Total protein cheese volumes have grown 76% year on year, while the UK quark category is now worth £5.3m, with value sales up 10.3% and volume sales increasing by 4.6%. Category growth is being driven by brands, while private-label quark is in decline.

Available in a 500g tub, with an RRP of £2.50, Lindahls Protein Quark is low in fat and lactose free, and provides 65g of protein per pot. Made in Sweden, where quark is widely enjoyed as part of a balanced lifestyle, its mild, creamy taste and versatility mean it can be eaten straight from the tub, paired with fruit or granola, blended into smoothies, or used across dips, sauces, savoury dishes, baking and desserts.

The product was also awarded two stars at the Great Taste Awards 2026, making it the only quark product to be recognised at this year’s awards. Judges highlighted its creamy consistency, smooth mouthfeel and fresh, clean flavour.

Héloïse Le Norcy-Trott, group marketing director at Lactalis UK & Ireland, said: “Protein has moved well beyond sports nutrition and into everyday meals and snacks, and quark is well placed to benefit from that shift. It combines the high-protein credentials shoppers are looking for with the versatility to work across breakfast, snacking, cooking and baking.

“Quark remains a relatively small category, so visibility and education are still important. This new Sainsbury’s listing will make Lindahls Protein Quark easier to find and help more shoppers understand how it can fit into their everyday routines.

“With brands now driving growth within quark, there is a clear opportunity for retailers and manufacturers to build the category together by recruiting new shoppers and opening up more usage occasions.”

The Sainsbury’s launch will be supported by a three-week promotional programme from 7 to 27 October, including point-of-sale barkers, in-store sampling and six-sheet advertising.

Lindahls Protein Quark is featured as part of the wider Lindahls Protein Good Movers social media campaign, which celebrates spontaneous dancing and joyful movement while reinforcing the brand’s role in supporting active, healthy lifestyles. The campaign, which has so far reached 500k people across Instagram and TikTok, encourages people to see movement as something enjoyable and achievable, helping broaden the brand’s relevance beyond traditional fitness occasions.

In parallel, Lindahls Protein is running a recipe-focused influencer programme designed to educate consumers about quark and provide practical inspiration for incorporating it into meals and snacks. The activity showcases quark’s versatility across sweet and savoury uses, helping build familiarity with the product and demonstrate how it can fit into a wider range of eating occasions.

Lindahls cheese value sales have now reached £2.4m, an increase of 569% year on year. Across cheese, milk, yoghurts and desserts, Lindahls is now a £40m RSV brand[iii], reflecting the growing relevance of high-protein dairy across a broader range of everyday eating occasions.
