Majestic, the UK’s largest specialist wine retailer, has kickstarted a fresh investment in its store portfolio by unveiling its newest branch in the Wiltshire town of Trowbridge.
Majestic’s latest location – the first new opening of its financial year – forms part of a commitment to invest £4m in its bricks and mortar estate during 2026/27. The plan includes the launch of at least four new stores and a comprehensive programme of improvements to its existing shops across the UK.
Majestic has put experiential, store-based retailing back at the heart of its growth plan since its split from Naked Wines plc and subsequent acquisition by Fortress Investment Group in 2019. Since then, the retailer has invested significantly in opening more than 25 new shops across England, Scotland, Wales and Jersey, and refurbishing dozens more.
Its latest new store in Trowbridge is situated in a prime location on Wicker Hill, a stone’s throw from the banks of the River Biss, The Shires Shopping Centre and a host of popular bars, restaurants and coffee shops.
The 4,145sq ft location stocks Majestic’s full range of more than 1,000 high-quality wines – including a dedicated area for 72 Fine Wines – plus its growing proposition of beers, spirits, low and no alcohol alternatives, soft drinks, snacks and gifts.
Majestic has brought its market-leading and award-winning service proposition to the Trowbridge store, where its experienced and highly qualified expert colleagues will host free wine tastings seven days a week. Customers will have the opportunity to try a selection of wines before they buy at the in-store Tasting Counter, and get expert advice from the Majestic team, all of whom are trained through the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET).
Shoppers can also benefit from Majestic’s unparalleled range of complementary services including free glass hire, bespoke wedding tastings, and the retailer’s unique ‘No Quibble Guarantee’, which allows customers to return any wines they don’t like in exchange for a bottle of equivalent value. Online shoppers can order from Majestic’s full range through its e-commerce website for free next-day delivery via the store’s dedicated electric van. Customers making their purchases online can also use Majestic’s highly popular ‘Shop Local’ proposition, which allows users to order from the stock available at the Trowbridge store, in real-time, for home delivery or click and collect within as little as four hours.
The new store will also support Majestic’s rapidly growing B2B division, Majestic Commercial, supplying wines to gastropubs, bars and restaurants in Wiltshire. Majestic Commercial, which was crowned On-Trade Supplier of the Year at the Drinks Business Awards 2024, currently partners with more than 4,200 hospitality venues across the UK, including the likes of Manchester City Football Club, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts and Marylebone Cricket Club’s iconic Lord’s cricket ground.
John Colley, executive chairman and CEO of Majestic Wine Group, said: “Our Trowbridge opening marks the start of another important year of investment for the Majestic business. Our experiential stores and expert colleagues have always been right at the heart of what we do best at Majestic, and they remain a central part of our strategic plan as we expand into new communities across the UK. This just the start of our exciting expansion plans for the year ahead, and underscores our confidence in the future of experiential bricks and mortar retail.”
Elizabeth Newman, managing director of Majestic Retail, added: “Trowbridge is a location we’ve had our eye on for some time as part of our expansion plans, so we are delighted to be bringing our award-winning wines and expertise to the town. We know there are thousands of discerning wine drinkers in the local community – many of whom already shop with us in Bath, Devizes, Chippenham or online – and our new store will make it even more convenient for them to shop with us. We’re really looking forward to serving them in Trowbridge and helping thousands of new customers discover quality wines, beers and spirits they will love.”
