Mindful Chef, the UK’s highest-rated recipe box, is proud to announce a major milestone: 20 million hot school meals donated through its longstanding charity partner, One Feeds Two. The company first partnered with One Feeds Two in 2017, with a shared mission to combat child hunger – one of the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges. Since then, Mindful Chef donations have fed the equivalent of 105,000 children every single day, for a whole school year. This milestone highlights Mindful Chef’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and community, which has been a cornerstone of the brand since day one.
This milestone, which is celebrated in its tenth year of making healthy eating easy, complements other significant sustainability achievements reached during this pivotal period:
Leading the way in sustainability
Pioneering B Corp Certification: Mindful Chef became the first recipe box company to certify as a B Corp in 2018 and re-certified in 2022 with a score of 107.3, making it one of the highest-rated food & beverage B Corps in the UK.
Low Carbon Leadership: With around 50% of the weekly menu classified as Low Carbon, over 4.6 million low-carbon meals have been delivered – saving approximately 4,000 tonnes of carbon. Each recipe undergoes a Life Cycle Assessment in partnership with ClimatePartner, empowering customers to make environmentally conscious meal choices.
Sustainable Packaging: Over 95% of packaging has been designed for recyclability, significantly reducing waste.
Regenerative Farming: Mindful Chef supports British farmers through investments in regenerative farming projects, working to understand and measure the impact that these practices can have not only on the quality of the ingredients they supply, but on the health of the soil and wildlife that live on our farms.
Recognised Excellence: Mindful Chef’s customer-first ethos and commitment to sustainability have earned it the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, reinforcing its position as the UK’s highest-rated recipe box.
Unmatched community impact
One Feeds Two Partnership: For every recipe box sold, a hot school meal is donated to a child living in poverty. This initiative has now reached an astounding 20 million meals donated.
Reverse Advent Calendar: Since 2018, this campaign has raised over 83 tonnes of food donations to The Felix Project, equating to more than 295,000 meals to help some of the 4 million people in the UK facing food poverty.
Community Clean-Ups: Since 2019, Mindful Chef’s clean-up events have collected over 475,000 litres of rubbish, fostering environmental stewardship across the UK.
Mindful Chef’s vision for the future
“We are incredibly proud to have reached the milestone of 20 million school meals donated, a testament to our remarkable community of Mindful Chefs. This achievement reinforces our dedication to sustainability and community impact, and as we look to the future we’re committed to expanding our sustainable offerings, tackling hunger close to home and further afield, as well as continuing to empower our customers to lead healthier lives while protecting our planet. We envision a future where nutritious, sustainable food choices are not only accessible but truly enjoyable for everyone,” said Tim Lee, CEO of Mindful Chef.
“Mindful Chef has been an exemplar of a business living its core values – and finding ways to bake impact into their day-to-day business activities. School meals are one of the most effective mechanisms for breaking the cycle of poverty, by supplementing the children’s nutrition, but also enabling them to attend school. For too many of these children, their school meal is the only meal of the day – and unfortunately, without it being available they would unlikely get to school, having to find a meal elsewhere. The cumulative effect of regular school meals and productive school days delivers enormously better educational outcomes in these communities. We are incredibly grateful to the Mindful Chef team and their customer base for their support for this cause,” said Owen Burton, co-founder of One Feeds Two.
