Nespresso Professional launches new Indonesia, Fairtrade Certified coffee to bolster its Origins range

Nespresso Professional Nespresso Professional announces the launch of its newest coffee capsule in the Origins range: Indonesia, a premium, Fairtrade, single origin coffee that captures the rich and diverse flavours of the Indonesian archipelago.

The new Indonesia capsule will join flavours from Brazil, Peru, Congo, and Colombia as an addition to the Origins collection. Each professional Origins Organic coffee is ‘Made with Care’ and sourced from carefully selected regions within their respective countries. They are refined, harvested, and processed using methods endorsed by local farmers – each echoing the land it is grown on, the farming practises and the care given in its sourcing.

Nespresso’s Indonesia blend is created with single origin Arabica beans. It is cultivated according to Fairtrade standards and sourced 100% through The Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality Program. Sumatran farmers wet hull their coffee because of the humid climate, which creates a wildly aromatic cup with woody and malted cereal notes.

Indonesia Arabica comes from central Aceh, a region in the northern part of Sumatra Isle. As the climate is extremely humid in Indonesia, coffee farming communities practice uniquely Indonesian way of processing – “wet hulling.” Commonly to other methods, in wet hulled process coffee cherries are harvested per usual, then pulped in rustic, hand cranked pulpers, fermented in bags overnight and rinsed clean the next morning. Instead of drying the now clean, wet parchment on patios up to 12 % humidity and then hulling the skins off, in this method the beans are hulled while still wet. In fact, at around 40 % moisture. As a result, the beans come out squashed and misshapen, milky blue – green colour and smelling sweetly, enticingly of fresh green peas. The farmers do this, so the sun and heat can directly penetrate the green bean, thereby allowing them to dry coffee 2 – 3 times quicker to the optimum moisture level (10 -12 %). This unique and different process creates an unmistakably unique “Indonesian” taste profile.

Through its AAA Sustainable Quality Program Nespresso supports more than 157,000 farmers in 18[1] countries worldwide, committed to securing the future of sustainable coffee and the livelihoods of the farming communities that grow the crop. This new Fairtrade certified coffee further demonstrates Nespresso’s responsibility for consumers that care about the living and working conditions of the people behind what they eat and drink, as well as on the impact on environment.

Nick Stevens, B2B commercial director, UK & ROI, said: “As a leading provider of coffee solutions for businesses, we are excited to introduce Indonesia to our Origins range. This new capsule is a tribute to the skilled farmers of Indonesia who have passed down their expertise for generations. It reflects our commitment to sustainability and to sourcing the highest quality coffee from diverse regions around the world.

“The launch of Indonesia comes at a time when businesses and consumers are seeking more sustainable, authentic, and ethically sourced products. Nespresso’s AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program ensures that the coffee is not only high in quality but also contributes to the well-being of the farmers and communities involved in its production.”

Nespresso Professional is cultivating the organic experience, having launched their first blend in 2020. Since then, over 7.5million organic capsules have been sold to hotels and businesses across a variety of industries, providing them with quality organic coffee.

The Organic collection promotes farming practices based on natural and mechanical cycles such as soil cover, compost, and biocontrol, alongside reducing the use of chemical inputs. This meets demand from customers to ensure products are not only the highest quality but are produced with natural ingredients and processes.
