Brindisa, the Spanish food specialist behind Perelló, is expanding the brand beyond its signature Gordal olives with the launch of five new store cupboard products, including tomatoes and cooking sauces, with listings secured at Ocado and Booths.
The five-strong range comprises Perelló Chopped Tomatoes, Perelló Tomate Frito; the classic Spanish sauce, Perelló Sofrito de Pimiento; the tomato sauce with red peppers, Perelló Salsa Picante; the spicy tomato sauce and Perelló Lamuyo Peppers. Inspired by the ingredients and flavours at the heart of Spanish home cooking, the new additions mark a significant expansion of Perelló’s ambient kitchen ingredients range, building on its existing pulses and bringing more of the brand’s distinctive Spanish flavour from the snacking aisle into the kitchen.
The full range is available now on Brindisa.com, with selected products also available at Ocado and Booths in November, significantly expanding Perelló’s presence in UK grocery. The Ocado listing will make the new kitchen range available to shoppers nationwide, while Booths will bring the range to stores across the North of England. Perelló products are already available through Morrisons, Whole Foods Market, Majestic Wines, Sous Chef and Sainsbury’s, with the wider UK range spanning olives, pickles, pulses, olive oil, crackers, nuts and snacks.
Leading the launch is Perelló Chopped Tomatoes, bringing Spanish provenance to a category largely associated with Italian produce. Grown in Andalucía in southern Spain, the pera tomatoes are prized for their dense, low-water flesh, which helps them retain their shape and bite. Harvested between August and September, they are picked and processed within 24 hours, then peeled, chopped and preserved in their own light juice for a naturally fruity, lightly acidic flavour. Their fresh tomato texture makes them versatile enough for everything from sauces and dressings to salads and Pan con Tomate.
Joining them are three ready-to-use cooking sauces inspired by the foundations of Spanish home cooking. Made with extra virgin olive oil, tomato and vegetables, the sauces are slowly cooked to develop depth and flavour and can be used as cooking bases, sauces and accompaniments straight from the jar.
Perelló Tomate Frito is a classic Spanish tomato sauce with a rich, rounded flavour and natural sweetness from slow-cooked onion. Ready to heat and serve with meatballs, beans or to stir through rice and pasta.
Perelló Sofrito de Pimiento combines tomato with slow-cooked piquillo peppers and garlic to create a full-bodied, velvety sauce with natural sweetness balanced by savoury depth. It can be used as a cooking base or paired with chorizo and other red meats, fish or vegetable dishes.
Perelló Salsa Picante is a smoky, spicy tomato sauce combining garlic, piquillo peppers and hot paprika with a touch of cayenne. Inspired by the flavours of Spanish salsa brava, it can be used to add a smoky kick to pork, chicken and fish. Particularly good with scallops and mussels.
The final item in this new kitchen range is the Perelló Lamuyo Peppers, known for their sweet, fruity flavour. Flame-roasted, peeled and preserved in their own juices, they are ready to eat and ideal for tapas and antipasti boards. They can also be used to garnish roasted fish and meats, paired with beans and pulses or added to stews for extra colour and flavour.
Together, the new products have been developed as versatile store cupboard staples that make some of the building blocks of Spanish cooking more accessible to UK home cooks, delivering the depth of traditionally slow-cooked flavours without the preparation time.
Monika Linton, founder of Brindisa, said: “Perelló has built a strong following in the UK for its Gordal olives, and we’ve been steadily building on that with a wider range of Spanish ingredients. Following the introduction of extra virgin olive oil and a wide range of pulses, we’re now adding essential Spanish sauces. Tomatoes, sofrito and tomate frito are staples of everyday Spanish cooking, and we want to make those flavours just as familiar to British home cooks and help with those who are time-poor during the week but still want delicious evening meals.
“The new listings with Ocado and Booths are an important part of that, giving more people across the UK the opportunity to discover Perelló and bring authentic Spanish flavours into their everyday cooking.”
