Premium European coffee house brand, Caffè Nero has partnered with MyProtein, the UK and Europe’s No. 1 Sports Nutrition Brand and part of the global THG Nutrition portfolio, to launch two new protein-based drinks across Caffè Nero’s full UK estate for the first time.
The two premium drinks, Iced Vanilla Protein Matcha Latte and the Iced Vanilla Protein Latte, are both under 160 calories and both feature 24 grams of protein (in the Matcha Latte) and 25 grams of protein (in the Vanilla Protein Latte), making them two of the highest protein content drinks on the high street.
The Iced Vanilla Protein Latte features Caffè Nero’s award winning Classico coffee blend, skimmed milk, a touch of sweet sugar free vanilla, and a boost of protein. Iced Vanilla Protein Matcha Latte combines smooth, vibrant matcha with skimmed-milk and a touch of sweet sugar free vanilla, and added protein. It is a creamy, refreshing way to enjoy Matcha with a protein boost.
The new drinks support the growing consumer demand for protein, which has become a common part of many people’s daily routine. They also build on the huge popularity of iced drinks in the UK. Iced drinks now account for 14.7% of total drinks sales at Caffè Nero, up from 8.1% five years ago, while iced drinks sales grew by 52% at Caffè Nero in the last financial year versus the previous year.
As with all Caffè Nero’s drinks, each of the new protein drinks will be hand-crafted by baristas, and will also feature MyProtein’s signature protein powder.
The new partnership builds on recent Myprotein launches across UK retail, including a collaboration with Krispy Kreme® to bring a Whey Protein Milkshake inspired by its Original Glazed™ doughnut to Boots, and SNICKERS®, MARS® and Bounty® Impact Whey Protein through its licensing partnership with Mars Wrigley, as the brand continues to expand its offline presence.
The two new drinks at Caffè Nero in the UK are the first launches under the new partnership, with further new recipes due to be announced in January.
Neil Mistry, CEO of THG Nutrition, said: “Protein has moved from the gym bag into everyday life, and coffee is the natural next step. Protein lattes have already taken off in the US, and we know the appetite is here too: our customers already add protein to their coffee at home. Now, with Caffè Nero, they can order it in a latte or matcha on the high street, across more than 600 stores.
“Nero is one of the UK’s best-loved coffee brands, and we’re proud to bring Myprotein to a routine millions of people already enjoy. It’s part of a growing number of food-service partnerships for Myprotein, as protein becomes a staple on menus across the UK, and this is the start of a partnership we’re excited to grow.”
Lysa Hardy, CEO at Caffè Nero UK commented: “The Iced Vanilla Protein Matcha Latte and the Iced Vanilla Protein Latte are delicious, new additions to our menu and respond to growing customer demand for high-protein drinks. They reflect our commitment to innovation and to delivering premium drinks to customers. They combine our speciality, award winning coffee and our ceremonial grade Matcha with the expertise of MyProtein. I think it is a great combination and I can’t wait to for customers to try them!”
