Organic herbal tea company, Pukka Herbs announces its partnership with Energy Garden, a ‘community benefit society’, to power its UK sites with 100% renewable electricity from community energy projects in the UK.

Pukka has signed on to a two-year power-purchase agreement, whereby the electricity required to power Pukka’s head offices in Keynsham near Bristol and warehouse, Quadrant, will be 100% bought from and provided by community energy projects.

Pukka is the second company to commit to a renewable community energy partnership with Energy Garden, with the first being outdoor apparel company, Patagonia which signed on to power its UK stores and office through Energy Garden 12 months ago.

Energy Garden is a ‘community benefit society’ that supports communities to install and maintain gardens on railway stations across London to bring green space back into the city. The revenue generated by the sale of community-owned renewable energy, such as that sold to Pukka, funds these gardens, as well as education programmes.

In addition to the cost per kWh that Pukka will pay for electricity, Pukka has also committed to pay a social premium each year, as well as making an upfront donation before the contract’s initiation. These funds will be used to support Energy Garden’s community engagement programmes and ultimately deliver wider social and environmental benefits.

“We are immensely excited to be the second UK business initiating our partnership with Energy Garden. We were so impressed and inspired by Energy Garden’s unique model for selling excess energy to business. By paying the social premium, Pukka is delighted to be able to fund wider social and environmental projects linked to our Mission to connect more people to nature and address the climate and biodiversity crises. We also hope that Pukka’s switch will inspire change amongst other businesses too,” said Georgia Phillips, Mission Lead at Pukka Herbs.

Pukka’s partnership with Energy Garden forms part of the company’s roadmap to its pioneering commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2030. Pukka is one of the 500 B Corps who pledged to achieving this goal in Madrid at COP2025 in 2019. with its commitments to sustainable operations

Pukka and Energy Garden will collaborate on the creation of herbal education modules for the Energy Garden Schools Programme, which focuses on engaging and educating children at Key Stage 2, 3 and 4 level in and around London on energy and environmental issues with fun and interactive sessions. Pukka’s module will centre on the benefits of organic agriculture, how to grow herbs at home, and the role of herbs and spices in a healthy diet.

Pukka and Energy Garden will also work to create areas in existing railway gardens to grow new herbs and implement educational signage on the herbs and their wellbeing benefits. Sites will be selected in due course.
