Sales of Iceland’s £1 range soar 61% YOY in the first half of January

Thousands of parents have hailed Iceland’s £1 range as a ‘lifesaver’ as sales of the range, now made up of 700 products, soar 61% YOY in the first half of January.

Iceland added 50 new products to the range this year and customers have been flocking to stores to stock up on essential £1 items that have helped customers beat the January pinch.

Millions of Iceland’s affordable meals have flown out of the freezers and onto thousands of family’s plates with sales of the £1 dishes increasing 84% in the first week of January alone.

Richard Walker, managing director of Iceland, said: “Iceland customers told us how tough things were and increasing our range of £1 products was key to supporting them. Access to affordable family meals is so important, giving people a chance to get around the dinner table and enjoy a hot meal even when the financial pressures are huge.”

The new additions, which include family staples such as meat and potato pie, breaded fish cakes, beef burgers and vegan nuggets, has increased the value range to more than 700 products in total which will be available in Iceland stores, online and in The Food Warehouse.

Walker continued: “With year-on-year sales in January up by more than 60%, it’s clear how well this has landed with customers and with more than 700 products across the range, there’s something for everyone. On top of this we’ll continue to do more to help families shop affordably, such as our recent 1p veg initiative and our continued support for free school meals.”

Parents have praised Iceland for expanding the £1 range with customers hailing the products as ‘lifesavers’ in customer reviews, revealing how they have picked up a week’s worth of meals for under £10.

With the new additions to the range being added, customers can now purchase hundreds of easy tea solutions, such as creamy chicken and mushroom meals with rice, battered fish fillets, vegetable quarter pounders, and meat and potato pies for pennies. Hundreds of branded products have also been added, including McVities penguin bars, Fairy liquid and Huggies baby wipes.

It’s not just the £1 value products where Iceland is looking to help customers. In December, the supermarket introduced a range of frozen vegetables and fresh produce for just 1p in a bid to help their customers’ budgets go further in the festive period and to start 2024, Iceland became the first supermarket to announce cuts to prices on baby formula products too, with three products being reduced from £12 to £11.20 in its stores.
