Scotland’s love of salt and chili has officially made the leap from takeaway to supermarket shelves, with Aldi Scotland launching a Salt & Chilli Chicken Curry Pie for one week only.Salt and chilli dishes have become a mainstay of Chinese takeaways across Scotland in recent years, and now shoppers can enjoy the same irresistible mix of spice, savoury curry and chilli heat, with chunks of chicken, peppers, onions and Chinese-style curry sauce all wrapped in golden, flaky pastry.
The pie, which will be available as a Specialbuy at all 109 of Aldi’s Scottish stores from Thursday 25 September, is the brainchild of Pie Sports.
Pie Sports, which launched in 2020, is a division of Pars Foods, headquartered in Glasgow. It was founded in 1998 by Brian Sarafilovic, the son of Branko Sarafilovic, a baker, who founded Pars Bakery in the 1950s.
Aldi began working with Pie Sports in July 2024 and has gone on to sell almost 150,000 of the baker’s popular pies to customers across Scotland.
The Salt & Chilli Chicken Curry Pie, available in packs of two for just £2.79, joins a selection of Pie Sports’ products coming to Aldi’s Scottish stores this week, with a Steak, Blaggis & Peppercorn Sauce Pie and a Steak & Sausage Pie set to launch as part of the retailer’s winter range.
Aldi has also added Pie Sports’ Kebab Pie and its Deep Fill Scotch Pie to its range, meaning customers can pick up their favourite baked goods every day of the year.
Brian Sarafilovic, managing director at Pars Foods and Pie Sports, said: “Salt and chilli is one of Scotland’s most popular flavour trends, and we wanted to capture that in a way that feels both exciting and comforting through our most recent creation.
“The team at Aldi Scotland has been brilliant to work with this past year, and we’re so pleased that our flavours are now being enjoyed by people right across the country. It’s incredibly rewarding to see our passion reaching so many new customers.”
Graham Nicolson, group buying director, Aldi Scotland, said: “Pie Sports’ reputation for producing top-quality pastries speaks for itself.
“We’re always looking to introduce exciting, quality and affordable products to our customers, so it’s really exciting to be bringing a much-love takeaway classic to dinner tables across the country.”
