Aldi Scotland has been recognised for its commitment to its employees at the prestigious Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards last night (Thursday, 7th September).

The awards celebrate the country’s food and drink sector, by shining a light on the finest producers and suppliers across Scotland.

The Employer of the Year accolade pays homage to a business which demonstrates strong leadership, and a focus on staff training and development, diversity and inclusion, and employee wellbeing.

Aldi Scotland currently employs more than 4,000 staff around the country. Last year, it hired more than 1,300 new recruits. It places an emphasis on staff development, which includes its highly successful apprenticeship programme which has recruited more than 150 new team members this year already.

The equal opportunities retailer delivers numerous initiatives to support its employee’s personal and financial wellbeing including regular pay reviews, free healthcare, Bike to Work schemes, and interactive training programmes.

Through the MyAldi app employees can also access free advice and information, including guidance on everything from the menopause to disability rights and nutritional help, at any time.

Richard Holloway, regional managing director for Scotland, said: “We are incredibly proud to have won the Employer of the Year award as it is a testament to our team and all the people who work hard to make Aldi a fantastic place to work.

“Investing in our people is a fundamental part of our business strategy, so winning this award is a great way to recognise our achievements and create a promise to continue fostering a workplace where every employee thrives.”
