UK shoppers could save more than £22 on an average basket by switching to Aldi, according to new data from The Grocer magazine.
In the trade publication’s ‘Super Grocer 33’ – a survey comparing the price of a 33-item basket of groceries at all major UK supermarkets – Aldi was named cheapest for the seventh consecutive time.
Coming in at £55.49, Aldi’s basket was some 40% cheaper than the most expensive supermarket, Waitrose, meaning shoppers could save £22.04 by switching to the discount retailer.
Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said: “At a time when household budgets remain under pressure, we’re continuing to help shoppers save every time they choose Aldi.
“Being named the UK’s cheapest supermarket by The Grocer for the seventh consecutive time underlines that genuine value doesn’t come from any tricks or short-term promotions. It comes from consistently low prices on the products people buy week in, week out – and that’s exactly what Aldi delivers.”
Aldi is the fourth-largest supermarket in the UK, and consumer champion Which? has named Aldi as the UK’s cheapest supermarket consecutively for the past five years.
