SodaStreamAs part of its ongoing mission to protect the planet, SodaStream, the world’s leading sparkling water brand, has successfully saved five billion single-use plastic bottles from being used and sent to landfill in 2022 alone*.

To commemorate this achievement, SodaStream has created an impactful video shared through the brand’s social channels, calling on even more people around the world to join its mission of making a difference by reducing single-use plastic waste.

The news comes ahead of Earth Day, where previously the brand pledged to eliminate 78 billion single-use plastic bottles by 2025, and with five billion saved last year, SodaStream is well on its way to achieving this goal. Such a vast amount of single-use plastic was able to be eliminated simply by  SodaStream consumers using the brand’s sustainable products to create perfect sparkling experiences. Moreover, SodaStream’s sparkling water-makers are made of high-quality materials, which are durable and made to last for years, demonstrating the brand’s passion for saving the planet, and its cylinders are reusable, refillable, and recyclable.

SodaStream has taken its commitment to look after the planet even further, transitioning every single one of its flavour bottles from plastic packaging to 100% recycled (rPET) bottles. The initiative is a huge milestone in the company’s sustainability journey, as SodaStream has now entirely phased out plastic packaging in more than 280 SKUs. Not only are all of SodaStream’s flavour bottles now created with 100% recycled PET, but the production of all flavour sleeves has transitioned from using PVC to CPET.

“SodaStream’s vision is to change the way the world drinks by inspiring people to push for better, and empowering them to make better choices not only for themselves but for the plane toot,” commented SodaStream’s CEO, Eyal Shohat. “One SodaStream machine saves up to thousands of single-use plastic bottles, and thanks to our dedicated consumers around the world, we managed to save more than five billion single-use plastic bottles in the last year.”

SodaStream’s commitment to the planet doesn’t end there:

  • SodaStream is eliminating plastic waste in every stage of its manufacturing process. Starting in 2022, up to 25% of plastic parts used in SodaStream’s new generation sparkling water-makers are produced from recycled materials, bringing the brand’s dedication to saving the planet to its core products, thus making its entire portfolio greener.

  • In addition, the company saved 11 tonnes of plastic by reusing plastic bags in its production lines and decreased the plastic waste in its manufacturing processes by more than 20% in 2022!

  • As of 2023, SodaStream’s operational facilities in Germany, Australia, and the Netherlands are fully operated using renewable energy sources.

  • Starting this year, about 15% of its factory’s yearly consumption of electricity is supplied through solar panels, which cover more than 75% of the factory’s rooftop.

  • In addition, 8.3% of the factory’s yearly water consumption will be saved by reusing water from the factory’s cooling water system.
