GAIL’s, the British craft bakery that has become one of London’s most recognisable names, will open a 3,200 sq. ft. location at The Broadway, the mixed-use development in St James’s Park. The new bakery, which will accommodate 74 covers inside and 25 outside, is set to open this July, bringing exceptional food and coffee to this central address.
Designed by acclaimed architectural firm Squire & Partners, The Broadway comprises 258 residences across six striking towers, alongside 116,000sq ft of premium office space and 24,000sq ft of curated retail and dining space at street level.
Recent leasing momentum continues to strengthen the scheme’s position as a prime mixed-use destination in central London. The addition of GAIL’s Bakery to the retail offering further enhances the curated tenant mix, with 12 of the 14 retail units now leased, representing 77% of the total retail area. With the development’s office space also now 85% let, The Broadway – led by Valouran as asset manager – is quickly establishing itself as one of the capital’s most dynamic new urban destinations.
Founded in the early 1990s by Gail Mejia, GAIL’s began as a premium wholesaler supplying London’s top chefs and food venues. Following Tom Molnar’s arrival in 2003, the business expanded into neighbourhood craft bakeries, bringing communities together through exceptional chef-quality baking. The first bakery opened on Hampstead High Street in 2005, and GAIL’s has grown steadily ever since, remaining true to its core offering of handmade bread, seasonal pastries and carefully sourced speciality coffee. Today, the brand is present in over 185 neighbourhoods across the UK, from London to Cambridge, Oxford and Manchester, with The Broadway set to become its latest London address.
GAIL’s arrival at The Broadway adds to the exciting, hand-picked mix of retail, food and beverage names already in place, including atis, Farmer J, Coyo Taco, Açaí Berry and Nostos Coffee.
Together, they are shaping a lively new destination centred around a landscaped, pedestrianised thoroughfare at the heart of St James’s Park.
Alex Michelin, co-founder and CEO of Valouran, comments: “Wherever GAIL’s open, they bring energy, a genuine sense of community and a quality that sets the tone for everything around them. They have earned a loyal following across London by never compromising on quality or craft, and their decision to open at The Broadway speaks to the exceptional destination we are creating in St James’s Park. We are excited to welcome them this summer and know they will become a favourite for not only our residents but also local office workers and visitors.”
A GAIL’s spokesperson comments: “GAIL’s is excited to confirm it is opening a new bakery in St James’s Park in July. The opening will bring GAIL’s craft baking to this central London location, creating several new baking, barista and management jobs. Through our Neighbourly Partnership we will also be donating surplus food to local charities as part of our ongoing commitment to give back to the communities that we serve and help to improve access to quality food and drink.”
The letting was brokered by CBRE, who are also handling the leasing of remaining retail units at the scheme.
