Renshaw, the Bakels-owned baking brand, is relaunching the Renshaw Cup after a more than two-decade hiatus. The prestigious competition returns to support and spotlight emerging talent in the industry, as the brand continues to strengthen its position as one of the UK’s leading cake decorating manufacturers.
Taking place at British Bakels’ Liverpool site, home of the Renshaw brand, from 8–10 July 2025 the event brings together the best young baking talent from colleges with baking courses across the UK, all of whom can now claim themselves as a Renshaw Cup winner.
The three-day final allows the bakers to see behind the scenes of a commercial operation, with tutorials from industry experts and an exclusive factory tour. They will also compete in a series of challenges designed to test creativity, technical ability, and professionalism to be named overall champion.
First launched in 1952 by company founder John Renshaw, the competition has a legacy of launching careers. Past winners include Steve Fulford, now British Bakels’ Lead Technical Manager, and Suzanne Thorpe, founder of The Frostery – one of the UK’s finest custom wedding cake creators.
Both Steve Fulford and Suzanne Thorpe will be in attendance at the event, as well as founder John Renshaw who will be presenting the attendees with their winning cup.
This year’s finalists include 20 of the best young bakers in the country who have been nominated for their exceptional technical skill, creativity and attitude.
Commenting on the return of the Renshaw Cup, James Cawthorne, managing director at British Bakels, said: “Renshaw has been part of British baking for over a century, and we’re thrilled to bring back this iconic event to support young talent. As a brand trusted by both professionals and home bakers, we see this as a brilliant opportunity to inspire innovation and ensure the sustainability of baking as a skilled trade. We’re proud to play a part in developing the talent that will drive the whole industry forward—from small craft bakeries and professional cake decorators to specialist and grocery retailers.”
