Very Lazy’s new Ambient Chopped Onion tackles one of the nation’s biggest kitchen frustrations

Very LazyNew Very Lazy Chopped Onion will roll out into Tesco stores nationwide from 7 July, marking a significant expansion for the brand in the core cooking ingredients category & bringing its latest convenience cooking innovation to more shoppers across the UK.

The new SKU is also available through Morrisons and Ocado, supporting expanded distribution and celebrating the latest milestone for the UK’s number one Wet Herbs & Spices brand, as demand for time-saving ingredient solutions continues to grow in the UK.

Claimed to be the hottest hack of the year, Chopped Onion is designed to remove the fuss of peeling, chopping and eye-watering irritation (aka onion tears!). NEW Very Lazy Chopped Onion further helps consumers skip one of the most time-consuming and disliked kitchen tasks while still delivering rich onion flavour in just 60 seconds. Featuring the brand’s Quick Fry technology, Chopped Onion goes from jar to pan in seconds & cooks in under a minute – an easy & fast shortcut for home cooks to save time without compromising on flavour, aroma or texture.

The launch comes as shoppers increasingly embrace cooking shortcuts & hacks, with the Wet Herbs & Spices category growing by 50% over the past five years and now worth £57m (Circana, 52 weeks to 16 May 2026).

Very Lazy continues to play a leading role within the category, delivering 45% of total category growth over the last year and growing the brand to more than £15m in value (Circana, 52 weeks to 16 May 2026).

The trend shows no signs of slowing, with research revealing that 65% of UK shoppers are happy to take shortcuts(Independent Consumer Research 2024) when preparing meals, highlighting growing demand for products that simplify ingredient preparation whilst maintaining confidence in scratch cooking.

From tears and lingering smells to peeling and chopping, it’s a task many shoppers would happily skip.”

The Tesco rollout of Very Lazy Chopped Onion is supported by the continued expansion of the wider Very Lazy range, including Very Lazy Roasted Garlic Paste and Very Lazy Italian Herb Paste, across Morrisons and Ocado.

Together, the range offers shoppers a portfolio of convenient cooking solutions designed to reduce preparation time while helping create flavour-packed meals at home.

Availability & Distribution (New to market)

• Very Lazy Chopped Onion (195g) will roll out nationwide into Tesco stores from 7th July and is available via Morrisons and Ocado. £2.00 RSP

• Very Lazy Roasted Garlic Paste (70g) is available via Morrisons and Ocado. £1.90 RSP

• Very Lazy Italian Herb Paste (65g) is available via Morrisons and Ocado. £1.90 RSP
