WaitroseSummer is a time for our food loving customers to get creative, with everyday eating ventures to the garden, the great outdoors and informal occasions that bring nearest and dearest together over great food and drink. With the joy of the nation’s changeable weather they need versatility and delicious food that is perfect for impromptu celebrations, come rain or shine. Over 50% are brand new products, in a summer refresh helping customers embrace Mediterranean cuisines and boldly explore new flavours.

Maddy Wilson, director of own brand at Waitrose, said: “Food lovers are at the heart of our summer range – whether they are putting on a Mediterranean spread for guests, pimping up a simple salad for lunch or want to bring out the very best for their barbecues, this is a range that allows our customers to get creative this summer. We have used AI and social media trends to ensure we are ahead of the curve and supplying the flavours and ingredients customers are currently craving, while allowing them to discover something new. I know we are all eager to welcome in summer now and our customers will be delighted with the delicious food that comes with that.”

New nostalgia

Nostalgia of summers past, have been brought into 2025 and given a sweet twist. Peach melba originated in the late 1800s and has graced restaurant menus for decades, making it one of the most favoured desserts globally. Our Peach Melba Ice Cream and Peach Melba Jelly make for the perfect summer dessert, served with seasonal fruit. A more recent classic which was a dinner party staple in the 1970s is black forest gateau, which has been emulated in the flavours coming through in our No.1 Belgian Dark Chocolate & Sour Cherry Ice Cream.

Trending TikTok Treats

Charcuterie glass toppers have dominated social media, meaning you can enjoy a glass of your favourite drink with your own individual charcuterie board to enjoy alongside. We have given customers everything they need to recreate this themselves at home with our Tipple Toppers, including mini boards, Milano salami, Ibérico cheese wedges, olives, pickles & bruschetta bites.

Cinnamon buns continue to grow in popularity on social media, with cafés dedicated to the sticky treat like Roll Boys in Hackney selling out everyday. We have taken all the best parts of a cinnamon bun and put it into our Cinnamon Bun Ice Cream, including sponge pieces and a sweet cinnamon ripple.

Modern Med

Many Mediterranean cuisines lend themselves to lighter summer style eating, a season where sharing plates and tapas are a go to on the dinner table. Customers will see herby and aromatic flavours throughout the range, commonly used in Mediterranean dishes, like our Baharat Spiced Chicken Pastries and Mediterranean Marinated Olive Trio. Complimentary to these complex spices is our Blood Orange & Pink Grapefruit Lemonade, inspired by Mediterranean summers – balancing tangy sweetness with refreshing citrus notes.

Premium grilling

Customers are looking to trade up on the basics, with our premium own-brand range Waitrose No.1 ready meals up 53% year on year, so we are giving them the same quality and choice to level up when grilling this summer. Introducing Waitrose No.1 barbecue range – new for this year – so customers can enjoy the very best on their barbecues. Our No.1 Red Shrimp & Monkfish with Pil Pil Butter has taken the classic Spanish dish of pil pil prawns to the next level with plump, sweet Argentinian red shrimp and succulent monkfish chunks – delicious with crusty bread to mop up every last bit of the butter.

Dips galore

Dips aren’t just for summer but they sure do taste great alongside picky bits in the garden, sales of dips are up 32% at Waitrose year on year – so we’re adding some newbies to the range. Complimentary to the Mediterranean flavours coming through in our summer range is our No.1 Baba Ghanoush – made with smoky grilled aubergines and creamy tahini. And for those that want a crowd pleaser, our Caesar Dip & Triple Layer Tex Mex Dip will bring a different surprise with each scoop.

Picky tea

Picky teas on TikTok have accumulated over 13.5M posts, as food lovers get creative with their grazing platters. Making up over 55% of the range with over 40 new and improved products is summer deli, meeting the need for a more casual, grazing meal to eat alfresco at a picnic or serve warm on those colder days. With options like our No.1 Romesco Charred Padron Peppers, No.1 Sicilian Giaraffa Olives, No.1 Prosciutto Arrosto, customers can rustle up a fuss-free but impressive spread in minutes.

Fresh & fruity

Bright colours and fresh flavours are always reminiscent of summertime, something customers can find throughout the range to add some zing to their meals. Taking a summer salad favourite and adding a fruity twist, our Diced Balsamic & Strawberry Beetroot has a hint of strawberry bringing a sweet fresh flavour. But nothing is more lip smacking than our No.1 Mango & Passion Fruit Curd, use it to mix through ice cream or scoop on top of your pavlova for a flavour explosion.
