British beef producer Warrendale Wagyu has won a prestigious food award for one of its products.
The company, which is based near Pocklington, has been awarded a three-star Great Taste award for its brisket joint.
Award judges’ comments included: “The meat is rich, with a pleasing depth of flavour, the fat too is delicious. This is a stunning piece of meat with a long finish, a great example of brisket.”
Run by the Guild of Fine Food, Great Taste is the world’s largest accreditation scheme and a three-star award is the highest accolade a product can win.
More than 15,000 products were entered into this year’s awards and only around 1.8% of them gained three stars.
British Wagyu Brisket is best slow-cooked, braised, smoked or roasted as these processes allow the marbling to melt into the meat; giving it a luxurious melt-in-the-mouth texture.
Tom Richardson, managing director at Warrendale Wagyu, said: “We are thrilled to have won this award that reinforces our goal to produce Britain’s best tasting beef.
“It’s great news for everyone across our quality supply chain, from our farmers working to the highest welfare standards to our highly skilled butchery team; we are making superior products everyone is proud of.”
The company was also awarded one-star awards for three of its other products: Flat Iron (227g), Wagyu Picanha and Wagyu Sirloin (227g). While last year Warrendale was awarded one-star awards for both its Wagyu Brisket and Wagyu Flat Iron Steak and in 2024 the company received a two-star rating for its Wagyu Denver Steak and one star each for the Beef Bourguignon Dine in Meal and Warrendale fat-washed WA-GYN.
Three-star winners are offered an opportunity to enter the Great Taste Golden Fork awards, which celebrate the best food and drink products from around the world. Warrendale will find out if they have won one in September.
