If all online consumers purchased using voucher codes, a massive £815.2 million could be saved, new research reveals.[1]

According to transaction data from the past year on a popular voucher codes site, an average saving of £14.62 was made per sale. Across all their customers, this equated to these savvy shoppers saving a huge £11.9 million on their online spending in the last year.

However, around 82% of the UK population have purchased online at least once. Therefore, if all online shoppers used this simple trick, then this could equate to a staggering saving of £815.2 million for consumers.[2]

The most common category to save money in is fashion, where voucher codes are used the most, according to MyVoucherCodes.[3] Fashion is followed by other popular sectors like sports clothing, health and beauty products, gifts, and takeaways. However, savings were also available across countless other areas, including flights, restaurants and home appliances.

Yet, the products most shoppers look for discounts on aren’t always where the largest savings can be made. Analysis shows that the biggest savings were made in the kitchen and kitchenware category, as well as on holidays. Shoppers saved an average of £92 on breaks last year simply by smart shopping.[1]

Sarah-Jane Outten, a savings expert from MyVoucherCodes, said: “This latest research shows the huge amount that shoppers could save by using money-saving discounts. Customers are already saving millions on their online purchases, but there are plenty of people who are yet to reap this reward.

“By sharing these insights, consumers can be made aware that there are more savings out there, across a wealth of categories. So, if you’re shopping online, it’s always worth checking out what offers or voucher codes might be available before you buy.”

Savings across more categories on the site include an average of £72 on theme parks and attractions, £65 on motoring and £59 on broadband providers.
