Co-op launches its newest store (Friday, 23 February) in Welling, creating 18 local jobs.

The convenience retailer’s new 2,700sq ft store is served-up in Wrotham Road, Welling, and open between 7am-10pm daily.

Designed to serve and support the community, conveniently, the store offers customer car parking, an ATM to provide access to cash in the community and, parcel collection services with an InPost Locker for added ease and convenience. The online home delivery of groceries are also available through Deliveroo and Uber Eats – with groceries picked fresh in the store by Co-op colleagues then delivered quickly and conveniently, locally.

This sits alongside an in-store bakery, and focus on fresh, healthy products; meal ideas; everyday essentials; food-to-go; chilled beers and award winning wines; ready meals; pizzas; Fairtrade products and, free-from, vegan and plant-based products. With a Costa Coffee Express machine to be installed soon after launch.

Shoppers can also cut their e-waste and unlock value in old and unwanted phones and electronic devices through Co-op’s trial with tech-recirculation company Spring.co.uk

A soft plastic recycle unit is also available in store to enable the community to recycle ‘soft plastics’ including: crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals and yogurt pots, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches – ensuring all Co-op’s own food packaging is recyclable through either local authority kerbside collections, or the in-store recycling unit.

Co-op store manager, Michael McDaniels, said: “We have had a great response. The whole team is delighted to have had the opportunity to launch Co-op’s newest store. Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life, and we’ve worked to develop the range, choice and added services to create a really compelling offer, conveniently. This includes a focus on delivering member-value so that the people who own our business, Co-op’s member-owners, benefit every time they shop.”

Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives. Its Members own the business and play an intrinsic part in the governance of the organisation, enjoying a wide number of benefits including member-only pricing across everyday essentials and, personalised offers via the Co-op Membership app.

In January, Co-op launched a significant new round of member prices within its Food business which saw a further 117 everyday low prices including, for the first time, branded goods. This followed the biggest ever investment in convenience pricing last year, where Member prices were introduced on 175 everyday essential products.
