Asda To Good To Go

Asda supermarket customers can now purchase £9 worth of food for just £3.30, as the retailer rolls out its partnership with food waste platform Too Good To Go across 1000 UK sites.

Through the free-to-download Too Good To Go app, Asda customers can now order a ‘Surprise Bag’ with grocery products for a fraction of the full price. The bags are full of a variety of different food items nearing their use-by date, but still edible, helping to prevent good food from going to waste.

Surprise Bag items are randomised based on what food is nearing its use-by date each day, but items available to customers could include prepared fruit or salads, chilled items, ready meals, food to go, bakery products, or produce with use-by dates such as diary, meat, fish or poultry.

Too Good To Go will now be available across nearly 1000 sites, including Asda Supermarket and Asda Express stores as well as foodservice sites located in Asda stores such as LEON, Greggs, Sbarro and Subway – giving more customers the chance to bag groceries for a fraction of the price and minimise food waste.

Fans of healthy fast-food restaurant LEON can also now purchase a brand-new Surprise Bag offer, featuring surplus stock of their favourite cakes and pastries. For £3.50, customers can receive over £10.50 worth of treats that would otherwise have gone to waste.

Sam Dickson, Asda Vice President for Commercial Strategy, Operations & Own Brand, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing Too Good To Go to more sites across the UK. Reducing food waste is a priority for us, and through innovative solutions like Too Good To Go, we hope to continue the progress we’ve made to date in minimising waste and supporting customers, communities and charities”.

Sophie Trueman, Country Director at Too Good To Go UK and Ireland adds: “We’re so pleased to be extending our partnership with Asda, helping to combat food waste and provide great value to customers. At Too Good To Go we believe that saving food from going to waste is a win-win-win – businesses can recover the sunk cost of would-be wasted food, consumers can get good food for less, and with one simple action, we’re collectively doing something great for the planet by stopping that food from ending up in landfill.”

To collect these bags, customers can search for a nearby Asda supermarket or Asda Express store in the Too Good To Go app. Users can also select when they wish to pick up their bag and can enjoy the contents at discounted prices.

Surprise Bags from Asda Supermarkets will be available for £3.30 and will include £9 worth of goods.

Bags from Asda Express, LEON, Greggs, Sbarro and Subway will differ in price depending on the contents, but could include breakfast items, lunch, and dinner food, and even a cakes & pastries bag.
