NextGifting experts at NEXT have conducted a survey asking Brits how long they leave their Christmas shopping, with 61% admitting that they leave their present buying until the last minute.¹ Whether you’re a Christmas Eve shopper or plan in advance, finding the right gift for our loved ones is a universal challenge. Over half (55%) say they’re struggling to think of gift ideas for friends and family this year.

According to a YouGov survey this week, two in three (67%) of Brits still have Christmas presents to buy, with only 22% saying they’ve finished their shopping.²

Using internal data and insights, NEXT have pulled the biggest gifting trends of 2024 to give you gifting inspiration across a range of gift categories. A spokesperson at NEXT has commented on each trend, with suggestions on how to gift them to your loved ones.

Beauty

Self care products

“Unsurprisingly, self care items are still a top trend when it comes to beauty gifting. At this time of year they can make really thoughtful gifts. These gifts work for everyone – great for when the life of the party’s social battery has finally run out, or for the homebody who loves a bath over a night of dancing.”

Body oil

“Bodycare has been a big skincare trend this year, with people focusing on looking after their whole body rather than just face and neck. To really hydrate the skin, body oil makes a great choice – often leaving a longer-lasting glow and scent than a moisturiser. Adding a fluffy dressing gown or comfy slippers can make the gift feel even more cosy and thoughtful.”

Fun make up bags

“Practical and stylish, makeup bags are a perfect addition to beauty gifting. Being playful and colourful with your makeup bag choice is a fun way to experiment with different prints and patterns. Gifting a fun make up bag is a practical and cute gift option for makeup lovers in your life.”

Toys and Tech

Plush toys

“The term ‘kidults’ has grown this year, with adults finding joy in toys and games that brought them happiness as children. One such item that has been incredibly popular this year are plush toys – whether in animal, food or everyday item forms. These make a cute gift for friends and family and can be really thoughtful.”

Collectables

“‘Primary Play’ is one of Pinterest’s biggest trend predictions for 2025 – the trend that encourages people to embrace their inner child. From trading cards to limited-edition figurines, collectables have become even more popular this year and captured the hearts of enthusiasts young and old. These items make unique and sentimental gifts that reflect the recipient’s hobbies and interests.”

Smart tech

“For the tech lovers in your life or anyone who loves to show off a new gadget, smart tech products make a great gift. Whether it’s a new home assistant, a sleek smartwatch, or wireless earbuds, these gifts are both practical and exciting, making them a hit under the tree.”

Crockery

“Elegant crockery sets are a great gift for a loved one who loves to host and takes time and care over creating a nice dining experience. From contemporary, fun designs to timeless classics, quality crockery makes a great gift. Alternatively, if you know someone who loves to cook, gifting them with cookware pieces makes a thoughtful choice – whether a casserole dish or new set of utensils.”

Glassware

“Sophisticated glassware – be it wine glasses, tumblers, or champagne flutes – is another winning choice for home gifts. Trending styles include playful, fun motifs like hearts or flowers. Opt for sets with intricate designs or personalized engraving to make the gift truly special.”

Women’s Fashion

Scrunchies

“The 90s resurgence continues with scrunchies making a bold comeback this year. Oversized and patterned styles in particular are popular at the moment. Depending on your recipient’s style, a bold leopard print or neutral silk scrunchie make practical stocking fillers or pretty secret santa gifts.”

Activewear

“Functional yet fashionable, activewear is an excellent gift for fitness lovers or those embracing a more active lifestyle in the new year. Running has been a huge fitness trend this year, so for run lovers, think gym leggings, sports bras, and running shoes.”

Men’s Fashion

Elevated accessories

“Men’s fashion staples like leather belts, classic watches, and premium wallets make excellent gifts. Look for quality craftsmanship and timeless designs that add a touch of sophistication to any outfit.”

Chunky Knitwear

“With Pinterest predicting ‘Fisherman Aesthetic’ as one of 2025’s biggest fashion trends (both for men and women) thick, textured knits are a bang-on trend gift whilst also being a great winter essential, offering warmth and style. A chunky sweater or cardigan in neutral tones makes a versatile and useful gift.”
