Most Brits say it doesn’t start until takeoff – YO! is changing that at with new launch in Heathrow

Some 30 million travellers are set to jet off this summer – but Brits have forgotten how to get into holiday mode as the great airport dash is back!

Brits are ditching duty-free and sit-down meals, as they frantically stock up on forgotten summer essentials once through terminal security. Faced with limited fresh options, flyers are panic-buying airport snacks, whilst yearning for quick and satisfying dishes to dine on-board the plane.

New research from YO! has revealed that the holiday feeling is delayed for 70% of us admitting we’re still in a state of stress, rushing through last-minute purchases and food decisions, with only 1 in 3 travellers able to make time to sit down and eat before boarding.

Painting a clear picture of modern airport anxiety. Over half of Brits (57%) admit they feel rushed or pressured when buying food and drink before a flight, leading to last-minute decisions they often regret. It’s no surprise, then, that 72% end up disappointed with their choices saying the food they pick up is often simply underwhelming.

In response, YO! is launching a new grab-and-go sushi concept across Heathrow terminals bringing fresh, high-quality sushi platters as well as protein packed breakfast options to travellers short on time, but not on taste.

83% of travellers are calling out for healthier, fresher meals when flying. In fact, 68% [Q5] say a high-quality, pre-prepared fish, chicken and plant-based sushi platters would be their ideal grab-and-go choice at the airport.

Lauren Crozier, marketing director at YO! said: “Somewhere along the way, we stopped seeing the airport as the start of the switch-off. We’re racing through terminals, forgetting our chargers, grabbing the wrong snacks, and sitting at the gate already disappointed. It’s time we fall back in love with airports and start the journey right with a delicious YO! treat in the terminal.”

Forget your toothbrush? You’re not alone, over 70% of travellers forget key travel items, with the top five being:

  • Phone chargers (27%)
  • Water bottles (27%)
  • Travel Pillows (25%)
  • Snacks/food (20%)
  • Reading Material (19%)

With its new Heathrow grab-and-go launch, YO! is offering the best of both with worlds fresh, high-quality fish, chicken and plant-based sushi platters along with breakfast items at speed, so travellers can enjoy a moment of indulgence without missing their boarding call.
