John Lewis and Uber Eats forge new partnership for rapid delivery pilot

John Lewis has teamed up with Uber Eats to launch a rapid delivery pilot, offering customers a convenient and speedy way to shop for nursery, premium beauty, and gifting products.

Whether it’s an urgent need for one of John Lewis’ famous hand-held fans to help keep cool, a mum in need of an emergency baby bottle while out and about, or a very last minute gift for a loved ones’ birthday – customers within an 8km radius of the John Lewis shops in Leeds and Stratford can now order from 150 curated products directly through the Uber Eats app.  The items can be delivered in as little as 30 minutes.

Products sold via Uber Eats will match the pricing found in John Lewis stores, online, and through its app, upholding the ‘Never Knowingly Undersold’ price promise.

Stella Winklewska, Category Lead at John Lewis, said: “Our pilot with Uber Eats will make it easier than ever for customers to access the John Lewis products they love, delivered to their location within the hour.  It’s an exciting strategic step to reach a new audience, and helps ensure that we’re there for our customers when they really need us – however they choose to shop with us.”

Alex Troughton, Head of Retail at Uber Eats, EMEA, said “We’re seeing significant growth in retail on Uber Eats as customers look to get everything from beauty products and gifts to baby essentials delivered in minutes. By combining John Lewis’ product range with Uber Eats’ technology, we’re helping customers get easy access to everyday items and premium picks alike. By working together, we’re excited to bring the best of the British high street directly to our customers’ doors.”

Retail sales on Uber Eats have grown significantly recently as customers increasingly turn to rapid delivery for a growing selection of items. For example, On Uber Eats, make-up sales have grown by 85% since last year, with perfume sales up 88% in the same period.

This pilot aims to understand customer demand, purchasing behaviours, and operational logistics before a wider national rollout.  It will run through to early September.  Items available from John Lewis through the Uber Eats app include:
