Ian Macleod Distillers (IMD)Ian Macleod Distillers , recently appointed distributor for Glenfarclas Highland Single Malt Scotch Whiskies in Global Travel Retail (GTR), has launched two Glenfarclas expressions  into the channel with Avolta, in their UK World Duty Free stores during the month of September, one of which is new and exclusive to GTR. For UK retailers and the on-trade this move means that even more whisky connoisseurs and those buying whisky gifts will be aware of the Glenfarclas brand, as its profile is raised within the UK and internationally.

The two GTR expressions now available in all key World Duty Free (WDF) stores in airports across the UK, are:

  • Glenfarclas 11-Year-Old (11YO), a new natural colour, non-chill filtered expression, bottled at 46% ABV (1L / RSP £49.99); this expression is exclusive to Global Travel Retail,
  • Glenfarclas 105, renowned as the first ever cask strength whisky release (1L / RSP £77.59 / 60% ABV).

From October, both expressions will be more widely available in the GTR channel. Glenfarclas 11YO has been selected as WDF’s high profile ‘Malt of the Month’ for September, resulting in high profile in-store visibility.

Glenfarclas distillery manager, Callum Fraser, conducted special bottle signings and tastings over the past two weeks at Edinburgh Airport, London Heathrow, and London Gatwick, which contributed to strong initial sales of Glenfarclas.

Two other Glenfarclas whiskies are also available both in duty free outlets and in general whisky retailers in the UK: Glenfarclas 16YO (46% ABV / non-chill filtered / 70cl / RSP £79.99) – which is also a Travel Retail exclusive, and Glenfarclas 35YO (43% ABV/70cl / RSP £765/).

Every bottle of Glenfarclas embodies nearly two centuries of unbroken family stewardship. Since 1865, five generations of the Grant family have nurtured the oldest family-owned distillery in Speyside. Glenfarclas continues to champion traditional techniques – including the rare use of direct-fired stills – and matures its whiskies predominantly in the finest Oloroso sherry casks sourced from Jerez, Spain.

David de Miguel, Global Category Head of Liquor at Avolta, says: “We are delighted to be the Global Travel Retail launchpad for Glenfarclas under the stewardship of Ian Macleod Distillers. Glenfarclas 11YO is a superb expression and worthy of the ‘Malt of the Month’ accolade and Glenfarclas 105 is an iconic single malt expression that will delight whisky lovers”.

William Ovens, head of global travel retail at Ian Macleod Distillers, added: “Glenfarclas is a hugely respected and highly rated single malt and we are really thrilled to launch these two very special expressions with World Duty Free, marking the return of this iconic single malt to the travel retail channel. We are equally delighted that Glenfarclas 11YO is ‘Malt of the Month’ during the exclusive global launch period.”

IMD and J&G Grant are highly respected, family-owned whisky companies in Scotland and long-term co-owners of the country’s largest independent bottlers, Broxburn Bottlers, making this partnership a natural extension of their existing strategic relationship.

stablished in 1836 and now owned by the fifth generation of the Grant family, Glenfarclas is a Highland Single Malt whisky that embodies quality and tradition. The Glenfarclas Distillery is the oldest family-owned distillery in Speyside and is renowned for its rich, sherried whiskies crafted in the traditional Speyside style. Nestled at the foot of Ben Rinnes, the distillery uses direct-fired stills and predominately matures its whiskies in the finest Oloroso sherry casks, ensuring a consistently high standard across its range.
