Majestic, the UK’s largest specialist wine retailer, has opened the doors to its first new store in Cornwall for more than 13 years as it ramps up its bricks and mortar expansion plans in all four corners of the country.
The Truro launch marks Majestic’s first new Cornish store since it opened for business in Falmouth back in August 2012, and only its second shop in the entire county. The store is situated close to Marks & Spencer, Aldi and a host of popular shops, restaurants and hotels, making it more convenient than ever for Truro’s wine lovers to discover premium drinks.
Majestic has invested in transforming the former Iceland supermarket on Fairmantle Street into a 5,100 sq ft wine emporium, stocking the retailer’s award-winning range of more than 1,200 wines – including a dedicated area for 72 Fine Wines – plus beers, spirits, low and no alcohol alternatives, snacks, gifts and cards.
Majestic has brought its market-leading service proposition to Truro, where its experienced and highly qualified expert colleagues will host free wine tastings seven days a week. Customers will have the opportunity to try a selection of wines before they buy at the in-store Tasting Counter and get expert advice from the Majestic team, all of whom are trained through the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET).
Shoppers can also benefit from Majestic’s unparalleled range of complementary services including free glass hire, bespoke wedding tastings, and the retailer’s unique ‘No Quibble Guarantee’, which allows customers to return any wines they don’t like in exchange for a bottle of equivalent value.
Online shoppers can order from Majestic’s full range through its e-commerce website for free next-day delivery via the store’s own dedicated van. Customers making their purchases online can also use Majestic’s highly popular ‘Shop Local’ proposition, which allows users to order from the stock available at the Truro store, in real-time, for click and collect within as little as four hours.
The new shop will also support Majestic’s rapidly growing B2B division, Majestic Commercial, supplying wines to gastropubs, bars and restaurants across Cornwall. Majestic Commercial was crowned On-Trade Supplier of the Year at the Drinks Business Awards 2024 and now partners with more than 3,300 hospitality venues across the UK, including the likes of Manchester City Football Club, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts and Marylebone Cricket Club’s iconic Lord’s cricket ground.
Majestic’s launch in Truro forms part of an exciting day of expansion for the wider Majestic Wine Group. Vagabond, the experiential tap-and-pour wine bar business that Majestic acquired in April 2024, also throws open the doors to its latest location in London’s Liverpool Street today. The Majestic Wine Group has already invested in extensive refurbishment of Vagabond’s flagship Battersea Power Station site and a new opening in St Paul’s this year, with the UK’s largest urban winery set to open in Canada Water next month.
The investment in growth underscores the renewed focus that Majestic has placed on experiential retail and hospitality offerings since its split from Naked Wines plc and subsequent acquisition by Fortress Investment Group in December 2019. Since then, following the reintroduction of former management and with the backing of its investor, Majestic has returned to growth and stability, opening more than 20 new stores and more than quadrupling sales in its Majestic Commercial business. Its acquisition of Vagabond last year and the premium wine and spirits distributor Enotria in April 2025 created the Majestic Wine Group – the UK’s largest end-to-end premium drinks specialist.
Majestic managing director Elizabeth Newman said: “Truro is a location that’s been on our radar for a number of years, so we are delighted to be bringing our award-winning wines and expertise to the town. We know there are thousands of wine lovers in Cornwall – many of whom already shop with us online or in Falmouth – and our new store will make it even easier for them to discover new wines, beers and spirits they will love, whatever their taste or budget.”
