Forget spotless dining, Britain’s youngest adults are eating loud and proud. A new poll* from Uber Eats and Rosa’s Thai has revealed that Gen Z are the messiest generation, with almost two-thirds (64%) admitting they’ve worn food stains in public, and 62% confessing they’ve ruined a brand new outfit within minutes of buying it.
While older Brits are still clutching the napkins, three in four Gen Z (74%) have spilled food or drink at a big event, from weddings to first dates, compared to just 32% of Boomers.
Stains are even more likely behind closed doors, with 41% of Brits saying they’re more likely to stain clothing when eating at home, with tomato sauces, soups, oil, and gravy named the biggest culprits.
With 30% declaring November as the official “soup season”, and the same number claiming it’s the food most likely to cause stains, it’s the perfect time to embrace the chaos of comfort food.
To mark the moment, Rosa’s Thai and Uber Eats are celebrating “meals worth making a mess for” with a new limited edition t-shirt collection, designed in collaboration with illustrator Justine Jossart. Each tee features a new Rosa’s Red Hot Thai Classic — the rich, creamy Khao Soi and the fiery Tom Yum Noodle Soup — two dishes so bold they might just leave their mark.
The exclusive shirts are only available when ordering a Red Hot Thai Classics bundle via Uber Eats at selected Rosa’s restaurants, including Norwich, Edinburgh, York, Liverpool, Exeter, Greenwich, Hackney and Tooting, until stocks last. Uber Eats is now the exclusive nationwide delivery partner to Rosa’s Thai.
Saiphin Moore, founder of Rosa’s Thai, said: “At Rosa’s, we say embrace the mess! A splash or two is a sign of a great meal. Our exclusive Uber Eats bundle celebrates the spills and stains that come with truly great Thai comfort food.”
Saskia de Jongh, vice president, Uber Eats EMEA, added: “Our limited-edition t-shirt line is a fun and unique way to celebrate that people across the UK can now get their Rosa’s Thai exclusively through Uber Eats. We hope that people will fully embrace the joy of delicious, messy meals, designed for devouring at home.”
The evening meal is deemed the most high-risk for spills, while t-shirts, shirts and blouses, and jumpers are the most likely items to be ruined by food or drink, with 15% of participants also liable to destroy a pair of trousers. One in fifty even reckon they’ve ruined a pair of socks thanks to a catastrophic spill.
The research found Britain’s Top 5 Most Stained Clothing Items are:
- T-shirts
- Shirts or blouses
- Jumpers
- Trousers
- Jeans
