- ResearchNielsenIQ BASES, the leader in helping companies build brands through innovation, recently announced the 2022 Europe Menu Innovation Award winners. For the first time in Europe, 120 new menu items were evaluated in a consumer survey by thousands of restaurant guests. The NielsenIQ BASES Restaurant Team evaluated each item’s relative performance on relevance — items that guests indicated they need or want — and innovation — items guests indicated they found new and exciting —  to identify 14 winners in the UK, Spain, Italy, France and Germany. The winners in the UK were Domino’s (Festive One Pizza); Wagamama (Spicy Vegan “Chicken” Hirata Steamed Buns) and Costa Aero (Hot Chocolate).

The awards were created to showcase standout menu innovations in the restaurant industry based on diner feedback. These innovations were impactful successes that kept guests engaged during a transitional year after the brunt of the pandemic. Whether consumers were ready to come back to a brick-and-mortar location or if they wanted to stay home, these award winners went the extra mile to deliver what guests needed, where they needed it.

“These brands went above and beyond to reach their diners and to give them new and exciting products during a challenging time for restaurants and consumers alike,” said Gustavo Zatt, NielsenIQ BASES Restaurants leader in Europe. “In the first year of the Europe Menu Innovation Awards, we’re excited to recognise the hard work of so many great brands across countries.”

Other 2023 Europe Menu Innovation Award winners are:

Spain

  • McDonald´s: Bearnesa
  • Fosters Hollywood: TacoPollo
  • Goiko: La Kranch

Italy

  • Burger King: Italian Kings
  • La Piadineria: La Levante
  • Autogrill: Wow Burger (vegan)

France

  • Burger King: Les Masters Montagnard
  • Buffalo Grill: Coupe Creamy Bananut

Germany

  • McDonald´s: Big Tasty Bacon Chili-Cheese
  • Nordsee: Visch and Chips
  • Pizza Hut: MyBox

BASES Menu Innovation Awards winners are wonderful examples of how restaurants can truly connect with their guests and create disruptive and innovative menu items.
