Aldi has partnered with The Salvation Army to support the charity’s work with local communities nationwide.
Through the two-year partnership, the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket will provide Salvation Army stores across the country with unsold, non-food Specialbuys, such as kitchen accessories, home furnishings and clothing, at a reduced cost.
The stores will then resell the supermarket’s popular products, with profits going towards its ongoing work to support the most vulnerable in the community and services for the homeless, elderly and families.
It comes following a successful year-long trial with the trading arm of the charity, during which Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL) raised over £350,000 through the sale of Aldi products in its stores.
Luke Emery, national sustainability director at Aldi, said: “We’re committed to doing all that we can to support our local communities and it’s great to be able to support The Salvation Army stock their stores. We know the profits raised will provide vital funds for the charity to continue its ongoing work to support those who need it most across the country.”
Kirk Bradley, head of corporate partnerships, at The Salvation Army, said: “We are delighted to partner with Aldi to offer some of its products in our stores. This partnership will contribute to providing a vital funding source for our charity as well as great quality products to our customers across the UK.”
Aldi also provides surplus food from all its stores to hundreds of charities across the country through its long-term partnership with Neighbourly. Since the partnership began, Aldi has donated over 40 million meals to local communities since launching its food donations initiative in 2019.
