Aldi Scotland raises over £10,000 for Scottish foodbanks in 2023

Aldi Scotland has raised over £10,000 for Scottish foodbanks in 2023 thanks to its popular Supermarket Sweep initiative.

Launched in 2016, Aldi’s Supermarket Sweep gives customers in Scotland the chance to dash through the aisles in a nostalgic take on the 90s show, all while supporting local foodbanks.

Taking place outwith Aldi’s usual opening hours, each participant has five minutes to grab their Aldi favourites to take home, with Aldi donating the cash value of the products to a local foodbank of the sweeper’s choosing. The sweeper can double the donation and take home a SpecialBuy item of their choice* if they find the hidden inflatable in-store.

Lucky shopper Darlene Birse, who raised over £1,800 when she took part in the Dundee Supermarket Sweep, said: “I had the best time ever. I was so nervous before the event, but I enjoyed it so much. The staff were all so lovely and I raised a great amount of money to help my local foodbank, which was my main aim.”

Richard Holloway, regional managing director for Aldi Scotland, said: “The Supermarket Sweep events hold a special place in the Aldi Scotland calendar, and 2023 was no exception. We are pleased to commemorate another successful year of engagement with our dedicated customers, providing them with the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of local communities across the country.

“Foodbanks in Scotland work tirelessly to help those who need their services the most, especially during these challenging times. I am enormously proud that we have raised more than £10,000 to support the incredible work that foodbanks do, and we look forward to continuing the initiative next year.”

Aldi’s Supermarket Sweep will return for its ninth year in 2024, with locations expected to be announced in the new year.
