It’s official – Aldi was Britain’s cheapest supermarket in 2025. The discount retailer has taken the crown of ‘Which? Cheapest Supermarket of the Year’ for the fifth consecutive year, making it the only supermarket to achieve this milestone.
The cost of a weekly shop at most expensive supermarket came in on average at 35 per cent more than the Aldi alternative – equating up to hundreds of pounds that could be saved each year simply by switching to Aldi.
The consumer champion tracks grocery prices every day across all of the UK’s major supermarkets, – including Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons, Asda, Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose – to see how much shoppers pay for everyday essential items. In December, Aldi was the cheapest supermarket for a list of 68 items, with the basket costing £123.60 on average across the month.
This confirms that in 2025, Aldi was the cheapest supermarket for a staggering 10 out of 12 months, firmly securing its position as the UK’s cheapest supermarket for the fifth year in a row.
