Decathlon

On Friday 24 April, Decathlon officially jumps into action at its innovative new home at IKEA Croydon. To celebrate the go-live of this world-first retail partnership, Decathlon is inviting families and sports fans across South London to a weekend of discovery, play, and exclusive rewards.

The celebrations start at 11:00 am on Friday 24 April, where the first 100 customers through the doors will receive a signature Quechua NH100 10L backpack and a £20 gift voucher to kickstart their next adventure. The momentum continues on Saturday 25 April, with the first 100 shoppers also receiving a free Quechua bag. To claim these rewards, visitors simply need to show their free Decathlon Membership account on arrival – sign-up is quick and easy and can be completed on the day or [here].

A Saturday of family play

On Saturday 25 April, the storefront will be transformed into a mini sporting playground designed for the whole family to get involved. The day will feature a climbing wall, free face painting, and live DJs to bring the energy. Shoppers will be able to test their skills in various sporting challenges for BIG prizes and instant rewards via a “Spin to Win” wheel running throughout the day with Decathlon gear up for grabs. Following the Saturday festivities, the store will remain open throughout Sunday for customers to explore the new space at their leisure.

Innovation in motion: 70+ sports under one roof

Located on the same site as IKEA Croydon, the new 1,188-square-metre Decathlon store is a dedicated space for everyone from seasoned athletes to families getting the kids ready for their first football match. With over 5,000 technically crafted products – including expert gear for hiking, cycling, running, and swimming and more – it’s the perfect place to kit out the whole family. Whether you’re picking up school holiday essentials, camping gear for the weekend, or new kit for the commute, having Decathlon and IKEA in one location makes it easy to get the sport and home shopping done in one go.

Decathlon’s Buy Back initiative will also be available from day one, allowing customers to trade in pre-loved gear for store credit, keeping high-quality equipment in play for longer. This is paired with a seamless Click & Collect service, allowing Croydon shoppers to access the full Decathlon range with ease.

Monica Cedres, London City director, Decathlon UK, said: “We’ve been looking forward to this day, and after a true team effort, we can’t wait to finally jump into action alongside our neighbours at IKEA. This partnership is all about making an active lifestyle as easy as a trip to IKEA. Croydon is a borough full of energy, and whether you’re looking for technical help with a PB or just grabbing your home and sport essentials in one go, we’re ready to help South London discover the joy of being active together.”

A milestone year

The Croydon opening marks an exciting new chapter of a journey that began in Lille, France, in 1976. Since opening its first UK store at Surrey Quays in 1999, Decathlon has become a staple of British sport. Now operating in over 70 countries, the brand is heading towards a massive milestone: Decathlon’s 50th anniversary in 2026. This new store represents the company’s continued commitment to retail innovation as it approaches its golden jubilee year.

Address: Decathlon IKEA Valley Retail Park, Purley Way, Croydon CR0 4UZ Opening Times, ongoing:

Monday -Saturday 10:00 to 19:00 Sunday 11:00 – 17:00
