Easter Iced Cherry Bakewell Tarts now available from shop that follows unique 100-year-old recipe

The Bakewell Tart Shop, which has been the home of the traditional Bakewell Tart for more than 100 years, has unveiled its special edition personalised Easter Iced Cherry Bakewell Tarts.

The Bakewell Tarts are made using a traditional recipe that has been owned by The Bakewell Tart Shop for more than 100 years. This means that the Bakewell Tarts are completely unique, and can’t be found or replicated anywhere else.

The personalised Iced Cherry Bakewell Tarts are available now and can be purchased online from bakewelltarts.co.uk/shop for national delivery. They cost £17.15 per 6 inch diameter Bakewell Tart.

They can also be bought from the physical store and café, at 18 Matlock Street in the heart of Bakewell – in the very building where it is believed Bakewell Tarts and Bakewell Puddings were first commercially baked.

The personalised Bakewell Tarts can either feature a traditional Easter message, or the words can be provided by the customer (up to 20 characters).

The Bakewell Tarts are carefully crafted by skilled bakers, using a pastry shell, a layer of raspberry jam, ground almonds, a frangipane mix, and then topped with icing and a cherry. They follow a traditional recipe, using only the finest ingredients. Interestingly, the recipe creates what is called a ‘wet mix’ meaning the tarts are noticeably moister than ones found elsewhere, which tend to be closer to a normal cake in appearance and consistency.

Duncan Kirk, Managing Director and owner of The Bakewell Tart Shop, says: “Our Bakewell Tarts are different to many of the versions you’ll find in larger shops. We follow our century-old, traditional recipe, using a wet mixture, which makes for a much moister tart. People are always very pleasantly surprised when they try one for the first time.

“We’re looking forward to sharing these Easter Bakewell Tarts with our customers. They make a beautiful after-dinner centrepiece, or a thoughtful gift – which can be delivered anywhere in the UK. They really are very special.”

The Bakewell Tart Shop is a family-owned business in the historic market town of Bakewell, in the southern part of the Peak District. The shop delivers Traditional Bakewell Tarts, Iced Cherry Bakewell Tarts, and Bakewell Puddings around the UK (gluten-free and vegan options are also available).

There is also a physical café and shop, which was fully refurbished in 2020. In addition to the Bakewell Tarts and Bakewell Puddings, the Bakewell Tart Shop offers a delicious choice of pies, cakes and freshly baked bread. They stock a selection of local savoury favourites including the Homity Pie, the Huntsman Pie and the Peak Pasty, along with sweet treats, such as Millionaire’s Shortbread, Eccles cakes and homemade scones.

The cafe menu includes breakfast, lunch, English cream teas/afternoon teas, and cakes – featuring local recipes and ingredients – as well as a wide range of hot and cold drinks. Vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options are available.
