El Rayo introduces Tequila Tonic in a can

Reading Time: 2 mins read

El RayoEl Rayo, the award-winning Tequila rewriting the rules, is shaking up summer drinking with the launch of its new Tequila Tonic ready-to-drink cans. Move over, G&Ts: the Tequila Tonic blends El Rayo’s signature smooth Plata Tequila with crisp tonic and a hint of grapefruit, bringing a new way to enjoy Tequila to even more people, in even more places.

El Rayo has championed the long Tequila Tonic serve since day one – no lime, no salt, no 3am slammers. Just clean, premium Tequila, poured long and sipped slow. This latest launch is the next step in that journey, making it even easier to enjoy a full-flavoured, beautifully balanced Tequila Tonic wherever the moment takes you.

El Rayo co-founder Tom Bishop said: “We’ve always believed Tequila is better served long, and at El Rayo, we’ve spent years proving it. This launch is the natural evolution of our journey to inspire people to think and drink creatively – same great Tequila, same modern Mexico energy just easier to crack open. It’s the future of Tequila, in a can.”

Available in 250ml slimline cans (7% ABV, RRP £3.50), the serve pairs award-winning Plata Tequila with artisanal tonic and a hint of grapefruit. It’s crisp, clean and full of zingy flavour – everything you’d expect from El Rayo, just ready to drink.

The cans are wrapped in El Rayo’s bold design, inspired by the dynamic, colourful Mexico that first sparked the idea. Created by Mexican artist Mario Ballestero the packaging bursts with bold shapes and vibrant tones, ensuring serious shelf appeal as a premium alternative to “gin in a tin”.

The El Rayo story began not in Mexico, but in Peckham, London. Founders Tom Bishop and Jack Vereker – best mates for more than 20 years – stumbled upon a bottle of Añejo Tequila one night, cracked it open, and never looked back. That first sip launched a full-blown love affair with Tequila, taking them from Peckham to Jalisco and back again. Along the way, they met local creatives and the maestro Tequilero Oscar Garcia, who helped shape the brand into what it is today.

From the slow-grown blue agave hand-harvested in the highlands, to the copper stills and three-day cook time, every drop of El Rayo is made with care – and with a mission to show the world what Tequila really tastes like.

El Rayo – “the lightning” in Spanish – launched in 2019 and continues to redefine Tequila, celebrating the vibrant, modern Mexico that fuels its creative ethos. The new T&T can is a natural next step: a fresh way to enjoy the spirit, bursting with flavour and ready when you are.

Alongside the new RTD, El Rayo’s two Tequilas – El Rayo Plata (RRP £34/70cl) and El Rayo Reposado (RRP £38/70cl) – remain at the heart of the brand’s range.

El Rayo’s new Tequila & Tonic RTD will be available on elrayotequila.co.uk and Amazon (£39 for a case of 12), and on Zapp (£3.50 a can).
