How Spar Alloa Road doubled its delivery sales in 12 months

Scottish retailer Jawad Javed reveals how Snappy Shopper helped transform home delivery into a £350K revenue stream

After breaking the £60,000 monthly sales barrier in December, Spar Alloa Road has rapidly scaled home delivery into what owner Jawad Javed describes as “another shop inside our shop”.

The Stenhousemuir-based retailer has more than doubled its Snappy Shopper sales in just one-year, growing delivery GMV from £160,000 in 2024 to £350,000 in 2025, as demand accelerated and home delivery became a core part of the business.

“We’ve been part of the local community for around nine years now and looking after our customers has always been at the heart of what we do,” says Jawad. “This shop isn’t just a business to us. It’s about supporting the people around us, whether that’s through everyday essentials or helping families when they need it most.”

Turning delivery into a revenue engine
Jawad says Snappy Shopper has become a core part of the store’s business model, sitting alongside hot food, coffee and traditional convenience retail.

“Snappy Shopper felt like adding another shop inside our shop, another business under the same roof,” he explains. “We already run multiple parts of the business, and Snappy became another strong revenue stream alongside that. With how tough things are for convenience stores right now, having Snappy has made a real difference. Without it, it would have been much harder.”

The growth trajectory has been steep. In December alone, Spar Alloa Road generated more than £60,000 in online sales, processing 2,830 delivery orders and acquiring 349 new customers in a single month.

“The growth we’ve seen has been huge,” says Jawad. “Breaking the £60,000 online sales barrier for the first time was a big moment for us. That level of growth came down to strong offers, great prices and the fact that customers genuinely love a bargain.”

“Even when money is tight, people will still spend if the value is there and Snappy helps us deliver that.”

Benefiting from local market changes
Jawad also credits recent shifts in the local delivery market with accelerating demand.

“Changes in the local delivery market have helped accelerate demand for our service ,” he says. “Our sales through Snappy Shopper have grown from £160,000 to £350,000 and we couldn’t be happier with the results.”

The store now delivers across Larbert, Stenhousemuir, Grangemouth, Falkirk, Camelon and Airth, with delivery becoming a routine shopping channel for many customers.

“We have customers who rely entirely on our Snappy app. Some order two or three times every week,” Jawad explains. “Many of them can’t travel easily, so the delivery service is essential for them.”

Promotions driving demand
Jawad says promotional activity has been a major factor behind the store’s delivery growth.

“Snappy contributes heavily towards promotions, and that makes a big difference,” he says. “Some of the deals are crazy in a good way. They drive a lot more orders, and we love being busier.”

“There are days when products sell out because demand is so strong, especially during big promotions. I’m often running to the cash and carry so we can keep delivering these deals to customers.”

Delivering directly to hospital wards
One of Spar Alloa Road’s most distinctive services is its hospital delivery operation, which Jawad believes is unique in the local area.

“We deliver directly to the local hospital, right to the wards, and as far as we know, nobody else is doing that,” he says. “We’re delivering to the hospital around six times a day.”

“Even on a quiet week, hospital deliveries alone can generate £400 to £500. It’s not easy, hospital deliveries take time and effort, but it’s worth it because people rely on us.”

“Patients, families and hospital staff all depend on the service, and we’re proud to be able to help. Some patients start ordering while they’re in hospital and continue using the app once they return home. That shows the trust they have in the service.”

The business has built a strong reputation for community support. In 2025, Asiyah and Jawad were awarded a Pride of Britain Award for their charitable work, having donated more than £100,000 worth of food and medical supplies to people in need since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Technology advantage
Jawad also points to Snappy Shopper’s platform technology as a key differentiator.

“Compared to other platforms, Snappy is much easier to use,” he says. “The biggest difference is the technology. The use of images on our menu makes a massive impact.”

“Using a proper database for images and product information really sets Snappy apart from other platforms.”

Looking ahead
For Jawad, delivery is no longer optional for independent retailers: “Online shopping is only going to keep growing, the shift is happening,” he says. “Snappy Shopper helped us get ahead of that change instead of reacting too late.”

“For independent retailers like us, platforms like Snappy aren’t just helpful, they’re vital for long-term survival.”
