Belazu launches Miso Harissa, a wildly adventurous powerhouse that combines two globally renowned store cupboard staples, miso and harissa, to create a perfectly balanced, bold and aromatic ingredient with an almost chocolatey texture. Miso Harissa taps into home-cooks growing demand for more daring and playful flavours and helps to elevate everyday dishes at home into restaurant quality meals.
Rory Goulcher, senior development chef at Belazu, says: “We’re so excited to be part of a flavour revolution where home-cooks are becoming more adventurous and with access to global ingredients are now looking for unique ways to elevate their dishes. Miso Harissa is the perfect example of a unique and ‘untraditional’ fusion that takes home-cooks beyond their comfort zone and opens up a world of delicious possibilities.”
Miso Harissa celebrates Belazu’s signature, and much-loved chef-grade North African ingredient, Rose Harissa and classic Japanese Red Miso paste. Together these two flavours offer a punchy and unique blend of spice, savouriness and subtle sweetness. The warm peppery spices from the Rose Harissa and deep umami notes from the Red Miso are balanced with a balsamic glaze and touch of honey to create a well-rounded, versatile, and ready-to-use ingredient.
Belazu’s Rose Harissa has been a chef favourite for more than 25 years and has grown in popularity among home-cooks during the last decade with chefs such as Ottolenghi and Jamie Oliver championing its “maximum flavour and minimum effort”. There has also been a significant cultural shift in consumer tastes as Japanese flavours have taken centre stage this year with the rise of Miso, Matcha and Mochi. Home-cooks are beginning to understand how transformative Miso can be, thanks to its high levels of naturally occurring glutamate – a compound most notably associated with MSG.
