The East of England Co-op has bolstered its senior leadership team by recruiting Liz Cobbold into a newly created role of chief customer, community & member officer.

Cobbold joined the regional co-op this month bringing a breadth of marketing and commercial experience and has worked with brands such as Tesco and Adnams. She is bringing her customer focus and expertise in brand management, design, digital marketing, AI, and customer insight to the East of England Co-op Senior Leadership team.

The East of England Co-op has grown its Senior Leadership team following year-on-year profit improvement.

With experience in retail and digital marketing, Liz is set to bring customers and members on the East of England Co-op’s journey.

Cobbold said: “Some of my earliest memories are of shopping at my local co-op and collecting divi stamps. The values of the Co-operative movement are very meaningful to me and I’m looking forward to refreshing how we communicate to members while remaining true to the values that the East of England Co-op was built on.”

Chief executive officer Andy Rigby said: “Liz has strengthened our Senior Leadership team through her retail and marketing experience while being the type of person that naturally lives and breathes our values. We’re committed to serving local communities across the east of England and Liz and her team will be creating impactful marketing strategies that support our customers and members.”

Cobbold added: “It will be great to work alongside a fantastic network of colleagues that have experience and knowledge across a range of sectors including our Food, Travel, Funeral, Property and Secure Response businesses.

“It’s an exciting time to join the business as we have recently opened our West Mersea Community Hub. I’m going to be visiting some of the community groups that have benefited from our recent donations and learn more about the support we provide in the communities we serve.”

The East of England Co-op is owned by its members and is driven by its commitment to support local communities. The retailer has donated over £130,000 through its Local Giving programme and over £1.1 million across the four community programmes run by East of England Co-op.
