Family-owned Penrhos Spirits has secured major duty-free listings for its sustainable, farm-to-bottle gin range in 100% recycled and reusable aluminium packaging. The brand’s award-winning London Dry and wonky fruit gins are now available to travellers via Lagardère Travel Retail at Luton and London City Airports, with 5cl miniatures also stocked in Heathrow Terminal 2’s prestigious “Discover London” store.
This breakthrough travel retail partnership showcases the complete Penrhos range, including their signature London Dry, Raspberry, Apple & Elderflower and Rhubarb variants in 70cl (£20.99), 5cl bottles, and convenient 4 x 5cl gift packs.
Penrhos Spirits made waves in 2023 when it became the first UK gin brand to transition from traditional glass to 100% recycled aluminium bottles. Specially designed with a spirits-safe lining, these lightweight containers (just 80g versus 750g for glass) reduce the brand’s packaging carbon footprint by an independently verified 91%.
“Our recycled aluminium gin bottles are absolutely perfect for travellers,” explains Co-Founder Charles Turner. “Beyond the sustainability credentials, they’re significantly lighter to carry and completely shatterproof – ensuring your holiday spirit arrives intact, whatever turbulence your luggage encounters. Our award-winning gin comes in a variety of delicious flavours, made with our very own wonky fruit from the farm, making this a truly unique spirit purchase.”
From wonky fruit to world class gin
Each bottle of Penrhos gin embodies the brand’s commitment to reducing food waste, transforming “imperfectly perfect” fruit from the family farm – fruit too wonky for supermarket shelves but bursting with flavour – into exceptional spirits.
To celebrate their packaging innovation, Penrhos introduced a Wonky Raspberry flavour using excess farm raspberries previously rejected by retailers. “We realized that one in five raspberries weren’t ‘perfect’ enough for shop shelves despite tasting absolutely delicious,” says Turner. “Now each bottle contains over 100g of these rescued raspberries.”
Rupert Firbank, Penrhos’ travel retail consultant, adds: “The world might not need another gin, but it definitely needs gin in shatterproof, recycled and stylish packaging. These award-winning spirits are perfect for travel retail – lightweight, durable, and create significant savings across the entire supply chain.”
This travel retail expansion follows Penrhos’ successful national launch into over 400 Sainsbury’s stores in September 2023. The brand’s London Dry and Wonky Raspberry variants are also available online via PenrhosSpirits.co.uk, Amazon, and Sainsbury’s at £30 RRP for 70cl. The 70cl are for sale in airports at an RRP of £20.99.
