PizzaExpress, the UK’s most iconic pizzeria brand, which is known for its delicious Dough Balls and famous ‘proper’ pizza, is thrilled to announce the launch of its PizzaExpress Pod, located at Tesco Extra in Southampton.

The new concept marks a milestone in the brand’s mission of reaching its pizza fans no matter where they are, this time – on the go. Positioned outside Tesco Extra’s main entrance, the PizzaExpress Pod allows pizza fans the ease to order and collect when on the move, ordering their firm favourites from an open kitchen and collection window. Launching simultaneously with delivery partners Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat – the ‘PizzaExpress Pod’ will also bring the brand’s iconic Dough Balls straight to doors across the area.

A ‘grab and go’ format featuring the same icons fans know and love, from the American Hot to the Padana, the PizzaExpress Pod will also feature a £9.95 pizza and soft drink lunch offer, with Tesco Clubcard members able to redeem their well-earned points (which are boosted to twice their value when converted to a PizzaExpress voucher) to use on their favourite pizza from the Pod.

In another industry first for PizzaExpress, its Pod is a sign of the British casual dining brand innovating and adding flair to the category to suit every occasion and customer. Today’s new pod is just one of the brand’s growth drivers as it continues to expand its retail range and grows its international presence with an aim of reaching 1,000 pizzerias globally by 2030.

Paula Mackenzie, CEO of PizzaExpress, said, “2024 has been a year of growth and new openings and we’re showing no signs of slowing down as we come into the festive season. Not only have our three new pizzerias across the country – London Gatwick, Oxford Summertown, The ICC in Birmingham – been a huge hit but now, our PizzaExpress Pod, brings something completely new and eye-catching for our pizza lovers and Tesco- goers.”

Chris Holmes, Chief Development Officer of PizzaExpress, said, “We are all about adding showtime and celebrating all occasions, big and small, from Soho to Singapore and now to Southampton! So why not add a touch of excitement (and Dough Balls) to your usual grocery trip? We were the original casual dining player in supermarkets, launching over 20 years ago and are top of the leaderboard for our chilled pizza, famous

salad dressing, and pizza dough proposition. We don’t stand still and are excited to keep thinking outside the box to help our pizza fans get hold of their favourite pizza (and salads or pasta) in even more ways – this time on the go and via delivery. Come and pay our Pod a visit!”

Simon Williams, Assets and Estates Director at Tesco, said, “We’re always looking for ways to serve our customers better and help make their shop even more convenient.

“We were delighted to work with PizzaExpress to develop the exciting new PizzaExpress Pod concept at our Southampton Extra, making it even easier for our customers to grab a bite to eat when they pop in to do their weekly shop.”
