The rumours are true! The nation’s most iconic pizzeria brand, PizzaExpress, has officially opened in Hull’s reimagined Burton House, following much anticipation and buzz amongst locals, to serve up its delicious pizzas and iconic Dough Balls.
Located in the centre of Hull in the city’s famed Burton House, which has recently undergone a transformation by owner and developer Wykeland Group to restore the art deco building to its 1930s glory, the brand-new pizzeria is embedded in an area rich in history and culture. It is also surrounded by the hustle and bustle of local shops and is just a short walk from The Deep, Connexin Live arena and Hull’s Museum Quarter – making it the perfect place to stop off for a slice of your favourite pizza after a day of exploring.
Step inside and you’ll find a space designed to bring people together – warm, vibrant and full of character. Bold colours and ambient lighting set the scene for everything from laid-back lunches to date nights and family get-togethers. Scalloped rattan and art- deco pendant lights glow overhead, while Bauhaus-inspired glass wall lamps line the room. Ceramic blue feather tiles sit alongside touches of filigree exposed brick, adding texture and unmistakable PizzaExpress flair. Finishing the space is an iconic, Instagram- ready ‘pizza lovers’ neon sign – the perfect backdrop for your next visit.
The opening of PizzaExpress Hull marks the tenth new opening in the brand’s milestone 60th year, with the new restaurant also creating new jobs, bringing more employment opportunities to the local community.
PizzaExpress Hull’s General Manager, Chris Joseph, and the restaurant’s 24 dedicated team members are looking forward to welcoming pizza fans to their brand-new restaurant.
Chris said, “We’re so excited to open our doors just in time for festive celebrations in our stunning new setting. Our team is ready to serve up our iconic Dough Balls and pizzas, and we know pizza fans are going to love our new restaurant – it’s the perfect destination, from catch-ups to celebrations and everything in between.”
The pizzeria is serving up the icons the brand is famed for, as well as its delicious Christmas menu, which includes PizzaExpress’ much loved Dough Balls in Blankets, brand-new Three Cheese & Truffle Dough Balls as well as three new delectable pizzas, the Cola-Glazed Ham Hock Romana, Prawn Thermidor Romana and the Mushroom & Truffle Romana.
For those with a taste for all things sweet, they can round their meal off with the indulgent Snowball Dough Ball Christmas Tree, the new Cracking Christmas Brownie, or a Baileys Affogato.
In addition to iconic favourites and vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options, kids can enjoy three courses of delicious grown-up food with the much-loved Piccolo menu, consisting of Dough Balls, pizza, pasta or salad, dessert and a Bambinoccino all for just £8.50.
Burton House is one of Hull’s most distinctive and characterful buildings. Designed for Burton menswear founder Montague Burton by his famed Chief Architect Henry Wilson, the opening of PizzaExpress is an exciting milestone in the rejuvenation of the landmark following a £2.4m restoration by Wykeland.
Wykeland’s Development Director, Jonathan Stubbs, said: “We’re delighted to welcome PizzaExpress to Burton House. Having the nation’s most iconic pizzeria brand as our first occupier realises our vision to bring the building back into use, to be enjoyed by local people and visitors alike.
“We’re sure PizzaExpress will love their new home and customers will enjoy dining in one of the city’s most striking settings.”
