Premium Scottish spirits brand enters Ontario’s multi-billion-dollar market as UK exports to Canada rise nearly 10% year-on-year

Rutland Square Spirits, the Edinburgh-based premium spirits company founded by entrepreneur Nishant Sharma, has reached a significant international milestone with its products now available across the Ontario region through a partnership with the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) — one of the largest and most respected alcohol retail and distribution organisations in the world.

The LCBO operates more than 690 retail stores across Ontario and serves millions of consumers each year, acting as the primary gateway for premium spirits entering the Canadian market and playing a central role in shaping consumer demand across the province. The LCBO alone generates annual sales of over CAD $7 billion, making it one of the most influential alcohol retail systems globally.

The listing also comes at a time of strengthening trade between the United Kingdom and Canada. Total UK exports to Canada recently reached approximately £18.3 billion, reflecting nearly 10% year-on-year growth and underlining Canada’s increasing importance as a strategic export market for British companies.

For Rutland Square Spirits, the LCBO listing represents a major milestone in the brand’s wider international expansion strategy as it continues to build distribution across key global markets.

Founded in Edinburgh, the company was built on the idea of combining traditional Scottish distilling craftsmanship with the rich spice profile of Indian chai and rare tea botanicals such as White Oolong, one of the world’s most prized teas. This unique fusion of Scottish heritage and global flavour influences sits at the heart of the brand’s identity.

The company’s flagship expression, Rutland Square Chai Spiced Scottish Gin, has attracted growing attention from international consumers and trade buyers seeking distinctive flavour profiles within the premium spirits category.

The LCBO listing follows a period of strong international momentum for the company, with Rutland Square Spirits expanding its presence across multiple export markets while continuing to develop its premium spirits portfolio from its Edinburgh base.

Nishant Sharma, founder & CEO of Rutland Square Spirits, commented: “Seeing our products on shelves in Ontario through the LCBO is an incredibly proud moment.

What started from a small home office, with our early stock stored in a garage, has grown into a spirits brand now reaching consumers across international markets.

I want to thank our investors, partners, distributors and everyone who has believed in this vision. Most importantly, I want to recognise the teams we have built across the UK and India whose commitment and hard work continue to drive the business forward every day.”
